ReisParticipantGreetings:So I did some low-level Googling and found this chart from Harvard that listed the glycemic index, load and corresponding serving size for 100 common foods. I threw it into excel so I could sort it an pare it down to a useful list of foods to consider on carb nites.Below are the 27 that fell into the "high glycemic" category, since they have an index of 70 or better (this standard provided by the GI page on Wikipedia). The list does not take gluten content into consideration, and I'm sure there are more factors than GI to consider when picking our ideal foods for a nice insulin spike. Perhaps someone can add to this list, or even optimize it further...The pasted info below is glycemic index only (glucose being 100). Check the chart for more details...Baked russet potato, average 111Fruit Roll-Ups® 99Baguette, white, plain 95Cornflakes™, average 93White rice, average 89Instant mashed potato, average 87Instant oatmeal, average 83Pretzels, oven-baked 83Rice cakes, average 82Boiled white potato, average 82Puffed wheat, average 80Pizza, plain baked dough, served with parmesan cheese and tomato sauce 80Gatorade 78Coco Pops™, average 77Vanilla wafers 77Waffles, Aunt Jemima (Quaker Oats) 76Grapenuts™, average 75Cream of Wheat™, Instant (Nabisco) 74Graham crackers 74Soda crackers 74Kaiser roll 73Wonder™ bread, average 73Bagel, white, frozen 72Watermelon 72White wheat flour bread 71Whole wheat bread, average 71Sweet potato, average 70

mwachtelParticipantmmm this list is suspect to me. Couple things that jump out are the gatorades (in USA they are sweetened w/ HFCS, so gotta be careful of that), and for the russet potaatoes, Kiefer is always saying that Russets are the less optimal choices, and instead go with more waxy patotoes. Fortunately, I love Yukon golds, and they are nice and waxy. And I think Kiefer said sweat potatoes are fine as long as you cook them really well. Maybe sprinkle on some dextrose and a tid bit cinnamon, yum.
