How much can I indulge?

    Some interesting posts here guys.For those of you who stick to the starchier type route, do you still start the backload or carb nite with something like a shake with whey, dextrose and leucine and then go onto solid foods like rice and potatoes etc?Do you guys even consume the usual Isolate, carb and leucine shakes on backloads between meals? Also, I've seen white bread mentioned... Is that an ok route to go down? I've never really had any known issues with gluten, but was under the impression to still avoid gluten.

    I have a PWO shake with whey isolate and leucine.  I don't put carbs in my PWO shake because I'd rather eat real food.White bread is fine if you tolerate gluten.  I personally don't think there's any reason to avoid it if you aren't sensitive or intolerant.

    ibobland, in terms of sensitive or intolerant to grains or gluten, would one know if that's the case? I mean, could one be sensitive or intolerant without  knowing? I've never really had problems with grains, except from when I introduced them again after several months without, but I've still been limiting them, because I thought they kinda bad anyway.

    As far as grains go the more processed the better. Its not just gluten that can be an issue.

    sure could be.. many people are sensitive to all kinds of things without knowing.. not just gluten but dairy and many others.. if you are having somewhat frequent stomach pains or bloating something you are eating probably doesn't agree with you.. many people just live with it though and never try to figure out what causes the issues...

    Okay. I never really has stomach pain or bloating. Would you say, just go for it then? I've just been avoiding grains because I thought they could screw up my immune system and because they contain anti-nutrients..

    if they aren't the main bulk of your diet you probably will be just fine..

    You know if you can tolerate gluten or not by experimenting.  If you get bad reactions, the don't eat it.  I personally used to have problems with gluten, but really my gut was just fucked up by eating junk.  Now I eat gluten fairly often and it's not a problem.I personally agree with Kiefer on this issue.  A healthy gut should be able to handle acute gluten exposure.

    Same issue here, I used to have stomach cramps so bad I could hardly move as well as GI upset if I ate gluten, then I focused on healing my gut and now I have in 1-3 times a week most of the time with no issue at all.
