I haven't been awake past 1 am for a long time. I usually go to bed a lot earlier than that. For the past few months I've been doing Resistance Training 3-4 times a week and Cycling or HIIT on off days. I follow a mostly primal diet and a CBL / CN / IF protocol (depending on week and day). I've been making consistent progress with my training and some muscle gains and fat loss.I have an all-night party to attend tonight, in which I might drink a little, but what concerns me the most is staying awake for that long. I know it's no big deal, but I wanna make the best of it to not hinder my gains or produce too much stress, confuse my hormones, etc.How would you approach this situation? So far I've thought of not working out today, having a big chunk of my precious liver, and maybe some BCAAs during the party? I don't know if I should stop eating at my regular time, or should keep eating some since I'll be awake, or maybe just the BCAAs will do?Community, your input is highly appreciated!

Just do the normal day, enjoy your party, get home, sleep, sleep in, repeat normal day

The monster that paleo created!Seriously as long as you don't make this a lifestyle, it will not hurt your health, performance, or muscular gains.  In fact it will probably improve your health because you'll be socializing, having fun, and maybe get laid.  Continue doing everything as normal.  No need to make special preparations.  Though you probably want to have something to heat up in the microwave to eat before bed.

Hahaha thanks for the inputs!I say mostly Primal because what I eat happens to be similar to that movement. I simply eat what doesn't upset my stomach, but I do eat non primal stuff like dairy and the occasional junk if I feel I can stomach it, but primal/paleo is by no means something I adhere to as a rule or anything.I am curious though about what would someone do with CBL if you by any chance suddenly had to stay up all night on a day you trained.I'll follow your advice and then just catch up with some sleep over the weekend, thanks everyone!

You'd BL your carbs and go to bed whenever that happens to be.

From what I've gleaned on podcasts with Keifer, this is the unideal scenario, but it's life, and you just enjoy it, and try to to make a habit of it.  My understanding from the CBL community is what scope said, from what I've gathered from some Teleconferences with BPAK is that after about an hour after your last back load, you would injest some form of resistance carbs to turn off the insulin signaling. Dr. Rocky and Keifer have talked about it in podcasts, but there's nothing really definitive out there study wise to back this so it was neither recommended nor discarded, but in the BB world this seems to fairly common from some of the coaches and trainers I've talked with in the NPC community.  Just my two cents from a little bit of my own research on the topic.

I occasionally have to work an all night shift (sometimes 24 hours + without sleep). No alcohol is involved but I do carb up a bit more than normal to keep cortisol at bay. Other than that I eat on a normal schedule and take caffeine as needed to stay alert (job requires I be alert on watch). Needless to say my training the following day suffers but other than that no other issues once I have got some rest.

That's the perfect answer. Thanks for your input! I think that'll be the plan from now on whenever I have to do it again.

After thinking about this more I do recall the last time I had to pull a triple shift, I was only hungry the first shift & much less the second and third. Once sleep deprived I was not nearly as hungry. Just goes to show sleep does burn a lot of calories.
