Thanks man, I try to do the same. But the conclusion my friends and family make about me is simply astounding. My brother and mother think being bulky and muscular has no point, they say I should do more cardio and that I should go to the doctor to make sure everything checks out. They prefer that I be slim (rather than being lean) and should be able to run 5 miles no problem; I beg to differ. I put in about 15 min brisk walks after my workouts, and that's all I should be doing. Then I kid you not, in the summer time, at a picnic one of my meat head friends thought I was doping and wanted to know what I was taking. They also have disbelief in my diet, and think that my diet only works for me, but not them and refuse to try it JUST because they don't think its a healthy lifestyle.So even if I do lead by example, the interpretations I get still wouldn't be what I expected.But whatevs, ce la vie

I've ran into this before. Usually it's from people that don't respect strength/power/muscularity and think endurance and having a low bodyweight means optimal health and fitness. Unfortunately, this is the result of the health advice pushed from the government, healthcare professionals, and gym teachers.

The bodyweight thing kills me. People do not understand that you can lose weight while getting fatter, or gain weight and look leaner/skinnier/healthier. People are slaves to the number on the scale.

LegsMegs81ParticipantAhem.. returning back to the topic with the OP..short answer:There is no "true" way to talk to someone off the ledge, it really depends on person to person. Some people might jump off fully, some people might climb down, some people might stay on the ledge, and others will never know they are on it. All I can say is offer the advice by first asking them for 5 mins of their time, give them reasons why it works, allow them to ask any questions they have, and don't sound like a "know it all".. that's just bad. .. and it leave it up to them if they wanna go through with it or not. Don't ever argue or force your opinions.personal experience:My mom has a huge problem with this diet, she's obese and has type 2 diabetes, but the problem with her is that she's lead a long life of dissatisfying results and health problems. Because of the social hooplah out there, she just doesn't believe anything can help her since she "tried them all". She believes that too much protein is bad for the liver, and brings up family history of diseases that could possibly be genetic but also be preventable from the foods we eat. Many times she's eaten fruits not because she's hungry or full.. but because "it's good for you".. containing vitamins and minerals. When I call her out on it, she just doesn't want to hear it.. I mean.. how could anyone suggest that eating skittles at the appropriate time, consuming ~3tbsp of butter, and having a pound of beef/chicken better than eating apples and berries all day?It's hard to convince her that what she knows is wrong because she's a hypochondriac and dramatizes all her symptoms. Last year she threw a fit when she couldn't stop coughing from the common cold.. calling her doctor and almost crying about it. Keifer mentioned on his podcast a year or 2 ago.. on how his diet failed for people like this because on the front, they'd be showing that they are following the diet.. but turning out they are cheating way more than they are supposed to; which could be due to some kind of underlying psychology factor.Even with my brother, he's a marathon runner, and has a completely opposite diet than what I have. Says he gets muscle from running these marathons. I personally think his diet is off the wall, since he's more concerned with calories consumption rather than macros percentages. He gains weight too easily, and persistently has to run to keep it off refusing any advice or tips I can offer. For most people, it's hard to convince people who are obese to follow this diet. You have to think about the reasons why they got that way. They go with compromises after compromises, reading all the misinformation out there because they come in masses and are SO easy to get to; whereas all the research Keifer puts into the diet comes from backend research papers that you have to pay for, or know someone who has access to it, or at least understand the medical information that can be converted to layman terms
Thank you very much for this reply post. Reading about your mom was like hearing someone talk about my mom. She is exactly the same, except she is pre-diabetic. For that reason I think I do get upset when she questions the diet or lack of running, cheats, etc. I get so scared and passionate about pro-longing her life that I do get upset with her. But you're right, that doesn't help. I'm trying to be patient, answer her questions (for the third or fourth time), and lead by example. While I was on vacation, my mom went to see a nutritionist. She wanted to get a second opinion and of course didn't tell me she was going until after she came back. I applaud her for wanting to learn more and question everything people tell her. The lady actually approved of the diet but encouraged her to start introducing more carbs. I asked my mom if the nutritionist explained why she should add more carbohydrates to her diet. I was really happy to see that my mom realized that the nutritionist didn't explain her methods and was only encouraging that because her Government issued license told her to say that. Overall she did get a better visual explanation about her body on a cellular level so she better understands and is on board with the diet more these days.

SakecatMemberBiggest problem with all the lack of running thing for me is I love to run but it dose not work I can be doing up to 8 miles a day and ill still cary around body fat. WTF lowest I have ever been was 218 lbs running that much and juice fasting like crazy. I think they both have there place When I am not on CN I will be juice fasting with at least 6 miles a day and low fat. I think I will not track carbs but fats and try to get all my fats from omega 3 high sources and all my carbs from green vegetables. My long term goal is to be down bellow 10% body fat and running was not going to get me there. Let your mother read what everyone has written here. She can lose weight with cardio sure she can lose it with juice fasting and cardio. But for some reason when the carbs are in me I have way less dietary control than since I have gone keto. I just don't have hunger pains any more. Allot of times I would eat before and I was still hungry because my body was missing some thing. for some reason in ketosis I am not having those messages from my body any more. know if my body would just get the message and get all the fat off my body well be doing great. Hopefully that is just tweaking.
