First, you can probably just drop the caffeine, it's not necessary PWO.Second, I can't find my copy of CBL, but those numbers sound high. I haven't made the actual shake from the book in a long time, but I seem to remember it being like 20g WPI, 10g casein/hydro etc or something. Can't really remember. These days I just do 20-30g of WPI + 10g WPH + 5g leucine + 5-10g creatine + electrolytes. Then stuff to make it taste good 😀

Brandon D ChristParticipantThat is the actual shake from the book and yea it's a shit ton of powder. I personally would go with just 20 g of whey, 10 g of a hydrolysate, and 5 g of leucine. I wouldn't say drop the caffeine because it does have benefits with insulin resistance. However, it's not worth it if it keeps you up at night.

HarryAinslieParticipantHi Lads, I think that photo shows it better!
This was used on a scale to measure out the grams?

With regards to the caffeine not being necessary, Keifer specifically states that the caffeine is added "to increase the rate at which glycogen stores refill"

I train at 9am so the caffeine is done and gone by then!I think i've come to the conclusion that this shake is supposed to be a badass shake and those measurements are in fact, correct

Brandon D ChristParticipantI don't think there's anything wrong with it and if you don't mind paying for all of those protein powders, the go for it. However, if it were me, I'd rather spend that money on other things, like higher quality food. Just something to keep in mind.

Richard SchmittModeratorI wasn't meaning to call you stupid, but just saying that's a lot. I almost forget how much volume there is with the actual shake.

HarryAinslieParticipantThanks for all your help lads, i really do appreciate it! I've taken all points on board too, so it hasn't fell on deaf ears.I understand that it's a lot of powder which comes at a great price these days. I've bought the stuff now so far better use it. I'm guessing that when you guys started you bought all this too? If so, how long was it until you stopped using it all?

Yes sir, I sure did at one point. It was after an old old old podcast Kiefer mentioned what to use if on budget (if I recall correctly) Getting whey isolate, and/or Hydrolysis whey with leucine and creatine is just as ideal.

I never used the formula verbatim. I did use a very similar one though. I have now switched to an intra-workout shake and a small whey shake post workout. That works much better than having just a post workout shake.

15-20 g of casein hydrolysate25-40 g of HBCD3 g of leucine2.5 g of beta alanineWhen my workload is the highest I use more HBCD. When I am experiencing soreness from workouts I increase the amount of casein hydrolysate.

agentmadsParticipantAlright. I don't really understand the intra workout nutrition, because I was of the understanding that if insulin is spiked, one would not be able to access the glycogen in the muscles as efficiently. What Kiefer referred to as The Hulk Effect. Can you clarify this for me?
