Alright. I don't really understand the intra workout nutrition, because I was of the understanding that if insulin is spiked, one would not be able to access the glycogen in the muscles as efficiently. What Kiefer referred to as The Hulk Effect. Can you clarify this for me?
That's correct, but my workouts are 3 hours long, so after about an hour, a lot of my glycogen is depleted. So I need more carbs. I drink my shake after the first hour or so and it allows me to finish the workout while still training hard. Also HBCD has an interesting property that increases you stamina. If your workouts are an hour or less, I wouldn't take any intra workout nutrition. If they are between 1-2 hours, it's sort of a gray area that depends on the nature of the workout. If your workout is getting up to 3 hours like mine, I definitely recommend an intra workout shake. When Kiefer gave that recommendation, he assumes you are training for 45 minutes to an hour like what the average person does. He actually does recommend intra workout carbs for his strongman clients that train for 3 hours.
