David WarrenParticipantAnyone got any good Bedtime meal examples to help prevent hypoglycemia through the night?

Richard SchmittModeratorThat's when you add some fat to that carb meal you're eating. Not a whole lot but enough.

CBachelor17MemberYou may not even have to worry about hypoglycemia, most people don't. But yes a little bit of fat will slow digestion. However a real food protein source will do the same job.

David WarrenParticipantI do get the shakes in the middle of the night tho. Its that bad it wakes my girlfriend but if she didn't wake me I'd have no idea. I've tried ice cream but doesn't seem to help. Was wondering if theirs any kind of combo or fat protein and carb ratios?

CBachelor17MemberCould be- Whats your normal carb intake? and whats your last meal look like? You should be having some protein before bed as well. At least a Whey Shake if you can't get some whole food in. Try a few fried eggs. I know thats been a recommendation with the morning Hypoglycemia, so I imagine it would help out with nighttime as well. Adding more sugary carbs w/fat isn't going to help though. So just do normal backload then a few whole eggs fried in butter before bed.

David WarrenParticipantBeen havin around 300g carbs in my backloads every day and no fat gain. Sources are dextrose, bananas, cherry, coconut water, dates, sushi rice and the occasional pizza. I usually just have a few spoons of coconut oil with the last meal and ill usually have 2 to 3 carb heavey meals. Also I throw in 3 to 5g of lucine with each carb meal to get a bigger insulin spike. Would you recommend leaving that out of the last meal with the eggs? Thanks.

CBachelor17Memberafter your normal last carb meal are you going straight to bed? That could be a cause of your issues. If not I would try keeping this normal. But just eating those eggs before bed. As a side note it has been suggested to not use MCT sources (Coconut Oil) w/carb meals; That being said if your doing fine using it than theres not need to take it out.

David WarrenParticipantThe eggs worked perfect! 3 eggs right before bed slept straight through! Thanks a lot for the advice!

RoadblockParticipantI used to eat 250 to 500g cottage cheese just before bed. Did the trick for me.RB

CBachelor17MemberYea Tex this is basically what I told him above ^^With the exception being this is being applied to the nighttime. And Keifers suggestion relates to the early morning/ mid afternoon. Same concept though.

Why would you think going straight to bed after a meal would be an issue for hypoglycemia? Curious.

Do you know why not?
