LumberJackedMemberI say stop being neurotic about eating carbs and enjoy your vacation. Plus a stack of completely well reasoned and sensible thinking.
Personally, I would just enjoy the vacation and re-prep upon return.
Are you a competitive physique athlete coming up to a show that will have significant impact on your financial setting? If the answer is no then stop with the paranoia. Do you honestly think you're going to gain 6% of pure body fat in 10 days? Are you going to be attempting to stimulate Italy's economy by eating ALL of their pasta? I'm assuming you're an adult and make your own decisions about what goes into your body, that your friend isn't tying you down and force feeding you AND you have some modicum of self control. It may sound harsh but it sounds like you may have a borderline eating disorder or very unhealthy relationship with food.

FairyGuest“Do you honestly think you're going to gain 6% of pure body fat in 10 days?” lol ;DDon't worry Brandon. Any damage you do, you will be able to undo -- and like LJ says, within reason, it will be hard for you to do significant damage just eating like a normal person does for 10 days.I hope you don't have any sort of eating disorder. I have had some mild forms of eating disorders and a few of my friends have had more serious forms. Just realize this really isn't something worth stressing about: You're going on vacation, and you're going to be eating like a normal person for 10 days. Be Happy, and Be Grateful! ๐ Wish I was about to go on a 10 day vacation to Italy right now!

thestiffmeisterParticipantHahahaha, well he could eat all of their pasta and go throw up afterwards…Hmm trying to think of something helpful to say, but many others have given you solid advice so far. When people do fuck up badly on vacation, it's usually after they stop caring because their plan got derailed. Stop thinking black and white, always try to shoot for the least shitty life choices and when you come back it will be as if it never happened. If you don't change that mindset though, I fear you might regret fucking up just a little bit, then go fuck up a whole lot more. I've done that in the past, alot, but I also know why I gained weight. It wasn't the situation, it was me. You are your worst enemy. Priorities friend, priorities. Worrying about your diet is what you do when you have nothing else going on, or on your own time. Now is the time for some flexibility and self-control.Funny for me it's the opposite if I have a social event I am afraid I won't be able to eat enough.

RussiBGuest"Do you honestly think you're going to gain 6% of pure body fat in 10 days?" lol ;D
+1. Just to put some context around this 1gram of fat = 9 calories, so 17 lbs of fat (looking at your previous example) would be:17 x 453.592 (lbs to grams) = 7711 grams7711 x 9 (grams to calories) = 69399 calories. If you are gone for ten days you would have to consume approximately 7000 calories ABOVE your maintenance levels to gain that sort of weight. Here it is in real-life:125g fresh tagliatelle has about 485 calories (Fat: 3.6g, Carbs: 64.6g, Protein: 12.5g).That means you would have to eat about 1.8KG of fresh pasta every day. If you manage it I know some extreme bodybuilders who would love to meet you. I seriously struggled to eat 200g fresh spaghetti on my last CN.Chill out - as others have said most of your gain will likely be water which is quickly depleted upon return. I was also worried about the upcoming holidays but realistically you need to live your life as wellย 8)

FairyGuestAh, calories. The imaginary numbers that mean very little to the human body, but make dieters feel like they're are in control because they can forget about all of the complex, unknown processes of the body and do a few basic math calculations instead.

+10000I don't know how many vacations I ruined for myself because I believed it would matter and I had to "stay on the diet".... But still, I always looked best after my vacations when I just didn't giveย a fuck, enjoyed myself and had fun, lol.

thestiffmeisterParticipantI find people in general don't eat such large portions. I was on the IF bandwagon for a while and did one meal a day, so of course if I splurge on my own time with my own quantities it's gonna be an awful lot of food, but I find “normal” people gain weight easily because they snack quite a bit, have carbs for breakfast and just all the time, drink soda and have all sorts of terrible habits that add up. They still don't eat enough protein and I find their plates ridiculously small most of the time. Eating like a “normal” person without all those terrible habits will make you lose weight and probably muscle if you train quite a bit and are used to eating high-protein.I don't think "normal" people will eat 2-3000 "calories" just from pastries/other delicious eats some of us have on a regular basis. Do they eat for performance? Hell no, but I don't think having meals with friends will make Brandon gain that much weight unless he goes out of his way to binge and ignore all of his healthy habits. Then again, maybe he hangs out with sadistic competitive eaters who like force-feeding people for all we know ๐

Psychologically though there is quite a big barrier to cross before you stop worrying about cals in/out - if someone is already worried about it then maybe some numbers would help rationalise their concern?Just a thought.

FairyGuestOnce you realise cals in/cals out means virtually nothing, then you will no longer be concerned with it ๐

20 years of being told I was fat because I ate too much by people who knew nothing about me versus 8 weeks on CNS. You are talking total reprogramming - subliminal rewiring of the brain takes time, practice and patience. I still have days when I think I should reduce my food intake because 'that is how you get thin'. It's a big jump when you have been through periods where you were trying to sustain ultra-low cal diets using clen and eph daily. You are 100% absolutely right though but it is difficult to just let go of what you have been taught all your life.

FairyGuestIf you had been flying from London to Paris via Hong Kong every week for work your whole life and hated the excess travel time, expense and flying in general, and then I showed you you could take the EuroTunnel directly from London to Paris, would you still fly via Hong Kong?Would you need some time to think it over and get used to it? Would you compulsively check flight times even though you were taking the train?

thestiffmeisterParticipantFairy has a point, you have to let go of that stuff at some point, so when will it be?. For me it was coming to Japan where I don't really have labels on most things I eat and I have to ballpark everything…or just get enough food and make the correct choices while having a basic idea of what macro ratios they have. A vacation is another good time to start ๐ Though I must admit, it'd be annoying always being around breakfast eaters (the carby kind), at some point we'd need to have a conversation about life if they insisted too much which they rarely do. That's something I don't budge on even on vacation, just makes me hungry and sluggish for the rest of the day. I'd say try to avoid that if you can. My hatred of "breakfast", the carby kind, is quite intense and bordering on homicidal, so take that with a grain of salt.

If I had been brain-washed into thinking that I would be heading for an early grave by not flying to Hong Kong then maybe. Of course there is a difference when you are educated, I liken myself to living in the dark on CR diets, but that's the world I was living in. There is an outstanding book called Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini. One of the best books I've ever read, truly fascinating. I am grateful this forum exists so I can let go of what I have always known.

...Hi!My last trip away with some friends entailed eating these + more in about 45 minutes total. 13 of that was for the burger. I won a tee shirt. Please excuse the frail appearance, it was just after my back problems and I was a horrifyingly small 88-89kg.Oh and for some relevance to the actual post, I spent the better part of 2 weeks living on sushi in mass quantities, pastries, Chinese food and alcohol without actually eating anything like vegetables the entire time...unless they where deep fried. Guess what happened? Nothing. I didn't become obese in those 2 weeks, it didn't effect my strength negatively (my means of measurement) and I didn't weigh, count, tally, accrue, log, or even guesstimate a damn thing.I enjoyed my time with some good friends....Actually I think I got leaner...Ugh.
