SpatzModeratorVeggies make a good carrier for butter.
You sound like my dad... everything in his life is a good carrier for butter. -And he's got very little fat on his body. Should have told us something right off the bat... 😉

breenhouseMemberIf you have been lifting for 3 years and only weigh 171 skinnyfat, hate to say it but there is something wrong. Most likely with your training routine. What's it like currently? More than happy to give you some help here. Let me know.

youngmrcleanGuestwell I wasn't consistant for those 3 years…1st year I didn't know wtf I was doing. 2nd I started getting a hang of it, and the past year ive been on and off..the past 4 months ive been going 4 to 5 days a week..But I haven't been focused at all on gaining size…more of been trying to get lean. so I lost a lot of muscle..then I heard about carb backloading to help me get rid of my belly. bought and read the book..been doing it sinceChest dayBench PressInclineDeclineCable cross overs: Back day:Wide grip pull downdeadliftsbent over row thingy seat rowsmaybe like a trap workoutShouldersShoulder pressBarbell shrugsseated shouldersshoulder flysLegSquatsleg pressleg extensions2 calve workoutsArmsBarbell curlsdipspreacher curlsskull crushersdumb bell curlstricep rope pull down

youngmrcleanGuestAlso when I say skinny fat I mean that loosely..i definitely have muscle lol. im not just skin and fat…its just I have muscle and the only fat I have left to lose is my lower back and over my abs. skinny fat people have long arms, legs, small wrists, and all our fat seems to go to our stomach and lower back. I think im kinda like an ectomorph. We also lose muscle faster then most too…so im pretty much in a lose lose situation.

breenhouseMemberYep it's your training. What you've outlined there is the typical bro-split. This sort of routine has emerged from the bodybuilding world in which athletes are supplementing with large amounts of anabolics stacked with insulin that allows them to grow all week long. Whilst you can definitely make gains with this sort of routine, for the natural trainee you can benefit a lot more from a bit higher frequency. Reason being is that MPS will return to baseline approximately 48 hours after you train. Therefore you should try to hit each body part a bit more often than once a week. Something like Icecreamfitness 5×5 or a Push Pull Legs program will definitely be more optimal for making some solid gains. Have a look into those routines.More than happy to help further if you have more questions.

youngmrcleanGuestIve heard a lot about the push, pull thing before..so what you're suggesting is I do a 3 day split? or I go 6 days a week?

breenhouseMemberMy personal opinion is that 3-4 intense sessions a week is all you'll need. But you have to take into account your own recovery ability. You should definitely be pushing yourself but if you aren't recovering that's a big problem.

youngmrcleanGuestIve thought about that..i train by myself so I never have anyone to push me..so its hard to tell if im pushing myself or not.

x2 Ive never trained more than 4 times a week. Made the biggest gains early on only training 3 times a week. I dont think Id be able to train more than 4 times a week without tearing myself to bits. I just wouldnt be able to reign myself in.

did the 3x a week thing for a long time.. did short sessions, long sessions, high volume, low volume.. honestly for me 5-6 days a week works best.. but like most things this type of thing is very specific to each person..

I've been thriving off of 6-7 sessions a week doing 2 a days most days. I have little to no ache and pains anymore, and I'm gaining strength and size more then ever before.

breenhouseMemberYou guys have obviously have found a balance between frequency and volume that works for you. I agree 100% that this is going to differ from person to person. We are all built differently. And I'm guessing that you are a little bit more advanced which is why you will need to break up your training that bit more to continue seeing gains/bring up weak points. For me personally, I train with an intensity that I couldn't keep up for 6-7 sessions a week. I would definitely burn myself out in under a fortnight.

It would take a radical training philosophy and personality change for me to be able to do what these young whipper snappers are doing! LOL
