Brandon D ChristParticipantI wouldn't use HBCD's PWO. I don't think they are high glycemic as dextrose and they are WAY more expensive than dextrose. Personally, though I quit taking carbs from supplements PWO. I just take HBCD intra workout and I have a carb free PWOP shake. I then get the rest of my carbs from real food.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorI started using the ignition shake and I wouldn't go without it now.
So are u using the shake prewo and carbs intra?
Yes, I do 10g whey and 5-10g MCT pre-workout, then 15g hydro whey, 10g hydro casein, and 30g HBCD intra.
Keifer talks in length about NOT having carbs intra workout....
As with most things, it depends. Some people nearly need them. Plus, HBCD don't cause a massive insulin spike and release a more steady supply of glucose to prevent hypo.
What does HBCD stand for? I started using 30g dextrose and 25g iso-100 a couple weeks ago.. Has worked pretty well so far..
Highly branched cyclic dextrins. I can't do dextrose, even 20g in a PWO will make me go hypo pretty quick, even if I take my time drinking it.
Ok, so simply personal tolerance?
Most people that use HBCD say they seem to work better. Personally, I'd try them at some point just to see if you notice a difference in comparison to dextrose.Biotest has Plazma which has both HBCD and casein hydro, Gaspari has Glycofuse which is HBCD, and the TN.com sells bulk HBCD.
For intra, right? PWO you want the higher spike that a dextrose/waxy-maize would give, correct? Or do you use the HBCD PWO also and just use the hydro/leucine to supplement the less drastic insulin spike of the HBCD?
Correct, IWO.If you are only having a PWO dextrose is better.

youngmrcleanGuestso you guys don't take the hypertrophic potentiator pwo or with you post meals?

Brandon D ChristParticipantso you guys don't take the hypertrophic potentiator pwo or with you post meals?
No, this is what I do:Intra workout: 15 g of PeptoPro, 25-40 g of HBCD, 3 g of leucinePWO - 20 g of whey isolate, 5 g of leucineI also take 5 g of leucine with each backload meal. I am not opposed to taking hydrolysates with the PWO shake and the backload meals, but I am really trying to simplify my supplementation and save money.

This is very close to what I do as well.

I know Meadows uses much higher dosages for HBCD and hydrlyzed casein, but I am having no soreness issues at all, and my HBCD intake is giving me all the all performance benefits I can get, so I'd say I am doing it pretty well. The whey PWO is just to boost protein intake and whey has health benefits like increased gluthione levels.

Richard SchmittModeratorThe method you guys are doing seem to work well in both performing and expenses. I like dextrose but barely use 20g each time. Curious on the effects using HBCDs (or similar) actually feel.

You can buy them if you'd like, but I'm not sure if you are at the level were they would even do anything. They are very expensive so, just keep that in mind.

Kiefer never takes cost into account when he gives recommendations. Also his recommendations are more geared to increasing the effectiveness of the diet, not really performance.

CBachelor17MemberIs there an advantage to getting your first carbs PWO from real food or is this a preference? I was hoenstly thinking of all together replacing my first “whole food meal” with a Milk Shake Consisting of Fat Free ice cream, “Flavored” Dextrose, Whey Isolate, and Leucine. Then having my last BL meal a real meal consisting of High GI Carbs, Protein, and Fat.

For me I'm down to one carb meal and that's it..usually 3 hours after my workout... About 30 min to an hour post I'll have a big ulc meal with a carb free protein shake. I workout 6 days a week generally and this works well
