I was wondering if someone could tell me the order of which proteins spike insulin from least to most.  I'd imagine that it has to do with the rate of digestion so I would guess it would be something like this:From smallest spike to largestCasein < Concentrate < Isolate < HydrolyzedIs this thinking correct?

You are right, faster absorption = bigger insulin spike. The amino acid leucine is present in eggs and BCAAs increases the insulin response more than regular protein. You can slow absorption with fat and/or fiber.

Oh my goodness, I think you just solved my mysterious weight gain - I had started drinking Xtend BCAAS on ULC, thinking there was no carbs in it (which there's not). I was drinking a lot of it because I'd read a fitness models post about sipping it all day everyday to "preserve muscle and burn fat" and help with sugar cravings. Do you think that could have been enough to make me gain weight while trying to eat ULC?

It could effect things, yeah.Just to help with worries about muscle loss, as long as you are eating plenty of fat the ketone production will prevent muscle loss.

thanks trevorxgage. I was a bit suspect because it seems to make me feel very bloated but I just went about drinking a ton of it anyway.  I'm not really worried about losing muscle - more the fat burning. If anything I don't mind losing some muscle with fat, I tend to build muscle really really easily.

Yep, the BCAAs would spike your insulin... I would only use them post-workout... not during the ULC.  Plus, it contains Ace-K in the ingredients... which also spikes insulin. If you are getting enough protein during the course of a day, you will preserve / build muscle.  Keep to 0.8g to 1.3g x LBM per day, don't go lower.Cory

Crista, Im not completely sure, and you can probably confirm this, but isnt Xtend sweetened w/ artificial sweetners? That could also lead to problems

It has Ace-k, but the leucine content will spike insulin more then ace-k could dream to.
