AdamFiddlerKeymasterLast night I had Carb Nite but was so full after the first 3 donuts and half a bag of cookies that I only got to part of the gelato I bought, so not more than 250-300 carbs by my estimate. I know ideally I would have had around 5-600 g's of carbs, but just wasn't hungry enough. Is there a minimum amount of carbs to be consumed on Carb Nite? I'm guessing not and that it doesn't matter, but if anybody with good knowledge of the program would let me know I'd appreciate it. Stats are bodyweight 164 lbs. and BF % about 10 if that helps.Adam

Intensity JunkieMemberThere isn't really a minimum but you should do your best to consume 400-600. On my refeed I do my best always to hit 600, but usually I fall in the 500's. I have done my best to get smarter with the foods I eat so I do not fill up as much, as well as I take digestive enzymes so I don't get that bloated feeling in my stomach. Also, I suggest having one big ass meal earlier in day that is your prot/fat meal, and also drink a ton of water in one sitting during part of the day as well, to keep your stomach a little bigger to even have room for all the carbs to come. M&M's are one of my new go to's

JizzmoGuesti was losing weight like crazy on 300-400g of carbs while doing CBL (4-5 backloads a week), so for CNS i'd recommend not going below at least 800g of carbs… 300g carbs once a week is nothing and i dont think thats enough to upregulate hormones, which is the main point of the carb nite!

AdamFiddlerGuestThe water's a really important point, thanks for that. Do you need to keep protein levels high throughout the night on your Carb Nite, or would it be okay to just take 40-50g of whey post-training, wait about an hour, and then start the carbfest? At least one of my carb sources is very heavy in milk so there'll be at least a bit of protein there.-Adam

To upregulate hormones? I thought the whole point is to spike insulin so that you add to the impending GH release due to your training after the insulin drops. I mean I'm not opposed to eating 800g of carbs at all, I just can't figure out how the hell to do it...Also, 800 grams seems a bit insane for 164 lb. body weight (me), if that's you in your picture Jizzmo I'm guessing you're closer to 215 or 220, no?-Adam

thestiffmeisterParticipantFrozen yogurt will be your best friend then. It's mostly sugar and really fluffy, about 300 g for a half-gallon and if you take your time (unlike me), it goes down easy. Angel cakes are also mushy as hell and if you spread something sugary on it (maple spread, chocolate sauce, caramel, cake icing). Basically, don't be afraid of the frozen dessert section and throw some softer pastries in there. I also find that things higher in fat will fill me up more while carbs on their own make me hungrier to the point where I can eat way past fullness. Last time I just had a couple store-baked muffins and they were wayyy too filing, which made the rest of my CN a pain.Mom is baking me a black forest cake for this weekend, and I can eat the whole thing in one night(several layers of cake, mind you, and the thing barely fits inside my fridge) because she uses really light/sugary ingredients for the most part.

IronFreakShowGuestAdam-With carbnite, especially if you are lifting while doing this, taking in as many carbs as possible it vital. With CBL your backloading after every session, with carbnite you're going a minimum of 5 days between carbloading, regardless of how much you lift. By doing a carbnite after a heavy lifting session you are mimicking some of the CBL protocol theories, but your main goal is to make sure ALL of your glycogen stores are filled up again. When I did CBL I was pounding 500-600 carbs every time, 3-4 times a week. Now on carbnite, I'm still lifting that many times but only carbloading every 5 days......Do the math, my store are so depleted, for a guy my size I'm shooting for the moon on carbnites, like 800+!!!

Thanks for the response, man. I'm actually training every day at very low volume (think: Bulgarian method without the back-off sets at this point). You didn't mention your bodyweight--is it similar to mine? By the way, I've actually used Carb-Backloading with much success, losing about 6% bodyfat in six weeks to get to around 9%, so I'm not a stranger to the principles, but I really am trying to figure out how to get 5-800 grams of carbs while still being ethical and responsible with my food choices on more fronts than just what will lose me body fat. (The stuff I listed at the beginning of the thread was all gluten-free, responsibly sourced etc.) I have big problems supporting agriculture because of what's it done to both the planet and what it also does to the human body in many cases, so it's not as simple for me as just ordering a pizza and so on. not to mention I won't consume wheat for other reasons, even if thinking short-term it might help lose bodyfat.(I listed donuts and cookies and stuff I at the beginning of the thread but that was all gluten-free, responsibly sourced palm-oil instead of canola etc.) With all that said, I've got some ideas now and should be able to get to at least 5 or 600. How long is Carb-Nite supposed to last btw? In terms of hours I mean. Also, I'm doing this once every four days since that seems to be the prescription once you're already fairly lean.-Adam

zewskiMemberDude just go to whole foods an buy some organic kids cereal (gluten free) problem solved. I could have eaten the whole bag if I wanted to and it was 25 servings of 26 carbs each.

AdamFiddlerGuestAh man, to be honest, I couldn't look myself in the mirror knowing I supported a company that feeds purposefully insulinogenic stuff to kids and is essentially doing all they can to contribute to what is already an epidemic of obesity in America, but I do appreciate the advice. Think the problem was all the fat I was consuming with the carbs. That seems to be the main point here.-A

Im actually barely 170lbs in my profile pic, its all about the illusion 😉 im only 5'8 so it'll take me a couple years to be pushing the 200s 🙂I think there are really two points of the Carb Nite:- number one being the manipulation of ghrelin and leptin ("hunger hormones") and t3 (upregulation of the metabolism / prevention of slowdown)- number two being the partial refilling of muscle glycogen (partial because its pretty much impossible to fully refill muscle glycogen in one carb nite, i think a human body is able to store around 1200g of carbs, a trained athlete might even store more. this amount is nearly impossible to hit on a single carb nite, plus you'd actually have to eat even more because of the thermic effects and wasting that occurs during a carb nites massive carb influx).dont be afraid to go crazy! im actually repeating the prep phase or doing 10 days of carb nite every couple weeks while normally doing CBL to get rid of excess water and speed up fat burning. im on day 6 now and day 11 - my first day of going back to CBL im gonna be back to my parents house because of semester break. im REALLY planning on pounding the food there. ive never managed to go above 750g of carbs, but im looking to hit the high 800s or 900s this time.

IronFreakShowGuestI'm right at about 237lbs. as of this morning. Like Jizzmo said, your body can roughly store 1200g of carbs……..if your lifting and depleting most of that you need to eat like a mad man. With all this summer heat in the Midwest, one thing I like to do is make my own sweet tea, I take a large glass of unsweetened tea, and put 1 cup of dextrose in it, I figure that’s about 100g of carbs per cup. drink on that while you eat other goodies, with your carbs being low leading into that, I piss like a mad man because I'm not storing a lot of fluids. As for time for carbnite, I believe Kiefer says to start around 6 p.m. and literally go until you pass out, its called carbnite.........so eat all night!

I used to make zero carb ice-cream all the time with it, but what should I use for the carbs? I'm not big on the idea of corn dextrose because it seems to be a hotbed of Fusarium and a few other things, so that pretty much leaves tapioca starch, which is awesome but it's tough to take in raw form (trust me on that one).-Adam
