I haven't tried them so I can't vouch for the tastes, but have you checked into rice or sweet potato carb powders?

Haven't looked into either of those, but I'd actually been having rice on my carb nites and that was a pretty easy way.  Thinking about what everybody has said combined with my own experiences, the key really seems to be keeping the fat lowish while consuming the carbs so you can get as many as is optimal.  Is it okay to have some whey after training and then start right in with the carbs after an hour or so, or do I need to be eating more protein than that on the Carb Nite?  (During my ULC portion of the day I have about 100g's of protein up to that point, so the whey would bring me close to 1g/lb. of bodyweight by the time I start the carbs).-Adam

Nah, doing the whey is great when trying to get lots of carbs.Tanner Fox suggests some people use whey as their protein source during a backload just because it's less filling the whole foods, and I'm pretty inclined to agree with him on that.

To upregulate hormones?  I thought the whole point is to spike insulin so that you add to the impending GH release due to your training after the insulin drops.  I mean I'm not opposed to eating 800g of carbs at all, I just can't figure out how the hell to do it...Also, 800 grams seems a bit insane for 164 lb. body weight (me), if that's you in your picture Jizzmo I'm guessing you're closer to 215 or 220, no?-Adam

Im actually barely 170lbs in my profile pic, its all about the illusion 😉 im only 5'8 so it'll take me a couple years to be pushing the 200s 🙂I think there are really two points of the Carb Nite:- number one being the manipulation of ghrelin and leptin ("hunger hormones") and t3 (upregulation of the metabolism / prevention of slowdown)- number two being the partial refilling of muscle glycogen (partial because its pretty much impossible to fully refill muscle glycogen in one carb nite, i think a human body is able to store around 1200g of carbs, a trained athlete might even store more. this amount is nearly impossible to hit on a single carb nite, plus you'd actually have to eat even more because of the thermic effects and wasting that occurs during a carb nites massive carb influx).dont be afraid to go crazy! im actually repeating the prep phase or doing 10 days of carb nite every couple weeks while normally doing CBL to get rid of excess water and speed up fat burning. im on day 6 now and day 11 - my first day of going back to CBL im gonna be back to my parents house because of semester break. im REALLY planning on pounding the food there. ive never managed to go above 750g of carbs, but im looking to hit the high 800s or 900s this time.

Haha man I'm not afraid to go crazy I'm trying to figure out how to go crazy.  Thanks for all the info on CN and hormones, I always feel kind of like a dick starting these threads since I haven't bought either of Kiefer's books, but I had no idea of the exact mechanisms behind Carb Nite and that it actually had some unique ones compared to Carb Back-Loading.  -Adam

Oh, in that case...Yeah I had about 12 oz. of grass-fed beef heart in heavy coconut milk curry with 50g whey for dinner before I started carbing up last night.  That might explain my difficulties...-Adam

Jesus, I don't think I'd be able to eat much after that.I try to avoid heavy curry when eating carbs, I love it but I always good full super quick.Beef heart, eh? How is that?

Btw, now that I know I don't need to eat huge amounts of beef for dinner before I have my carbs…I'm taking all of yours' advice and repeating yetserday's Carb Nite effort tonight with yesterday's leftover carbos to see how many I can get down being smarter about it (and just repeating the prep phase after tonight to reset things).-Adam

It's really good.  Even I was a little skiddish about it at first but it tastes just like steak, and is apparently a very good source of creatine as well.  I actually just contacted Naomi to see if she'll put my beef-heart curry recipe on her blog.  It's really awesome, easy to make, and not very expensive as far as high-quality ingredients tend to go.  So unlike Carb-Backloading then, we don't actually care about prolonging the insulin spike on Carb Nite, correct?  I ask because this is the only reason I was making sure to get saturated fat alongside my carbs.  -Adam

Getting fat with carbs is still good, but the protein is what is making it hard.Things like cookie, ice cream, and donuts that have a good bit of fat with them will go down much easier and allow you to eat more. I know you used to just do whipped sweet potatoes, do that with a half stick of butter thrown in and you have a great meal. You could even make a sweet potato pie.

Haha yeah that was before I discovered the grass-fed gelato place by my house.  Alright taking your advice on the protein, off to go put in a second lifting session today so I can make my repeated CN a "backload".  If you don't hear back from me, it only means I drowned in a sea of donuts.-Adam
