AdamFiddlerKeymasterIs going purely zero-carb the most effective way to ULC your day in terms of fat loss? I assume it has no effect on strength preservation or not, but looking to simplify my CNS Protocol as much as possible (If the answer to this is “yes”, then it will literally be just grass-fed beef and Kerrygold butter).Mostly I wonder if there is any difference in cortisol profiles or anything like that while cutting out the "extra" 30 g's.-Adam

TheDanParticipantYup pretty much

AdamFiddlerGuestDo you have any definitive reasons why or is it just kind of linear thinking (i.e. if under 30 grams is the goal, then zero is as far under 30 as you can get so it must be the best)?-Adam

TheDanParticipantBased on experience with clients and the fact that keifer once stated on an episode of biojacked that he would rather only eat meat and fats and skip the veggies. Also that he would just eat peanut butter from the spoon rather than on a piece of celery. People seem to have less complications that way. Thats not verbatim but it was something to that effect. People worry about fiber but if you eat enough fat your food will pass through.

AdamFiddlerGuestOkay cool thanks a bunch for the response. Grass-fed beef and butter it is then. I echo the sentiment of your experiences with clients btw–if you can't count the foods you're eating daily on one hand, two hands at the most, then it's probably way too complicated to quickly form habits with.(Incidentally, instituting the advice of you and Kiefer is taking my daily food list from five to two.)-Adam

TheDanParticipantAbsolutely, glad to help. Some natural bacon wouldn't hurt either if that is an option for you.

AdamFiddlerGuestToo expensive for the amount that I eat of it. Actually just went through about 7 lbs. of beef bacon from US Wellness Meats extremely fast. I agree it's good though!-Adam

AdamFiddlerGuestTheDan:As a side note, I just read through Carb Nite and I'm having a hard time understanding the seemingly vague suggestions that Kiefer makes for the actual Carb Nite. "Don't worry about anything and eat everything" would be definitive enough, but he seems to suggest that eating low-fat carbs for the first portion of Carb Nite is best and then it's okay to go crazy? I assume there is no limit to the amount of carbs you consume on Carb Nite, especially if you're doing hard strength training a few times per week.Bottom line: Would, for example, steak with potatoes or rice after training on Carb Nite and then as much as I can eat of pizza and cheesecake be okay? (Not joking.)Background is male, 170 lbs., somewhere between 8 and 12 % bodyfat according to the little home scanner thing I have.-Adam

Would probably be okay if you are doing carb nite. Just try it and make sure you document your results. If you really are that lean, you shouldn't have any problems gaining. But, you may need to take notes and tweak if you are trying to get leaner.

sckielyParticipantI just want to add to this that I said months ago that the fibre is a little over emphasised. Most of my clients get their best results with minimal veg and focusing in good meats and fats.Your body adjusts to what it needs to do with what you give it! So sometimes even a little veg/ carbs can knock it in the wrong direction.

AdamFiddlerGuestLol my carbs on the ULC phase are all either from coconut milk or from turmeric, I don't even think I've had a vegetable in about four months now.-Adam

TheDanParticipantI honestly just go all out on carb nites. Assuming you are not gluten sensitive your plan sounds ok, you have to remember carb nite was written 6 years ago. Word on the street from Keifer lately ( or at least the last comment i heard ) is that the people who put less thought into their carb nite and just eat what they want seem to have the best results. This is the theory i applied to my clients who are doing carb nite and they are dropping fat exponentially. One is at 12%bf now down from 22%. I think adjustments will have to be made soon but i am still in the trial and error stages with CNS myself and still learning as well. I am assuming you are trying to get leaner. Best thing to do is try different situations and see what works best for you, try a crazy carb nite full of junk food and see how you feel. Sorry i can't give a black and white answer but fitness and nutrition is always going to be dependent on individuality.

webbyMemberI've tried zero carbs this past week. No veg at all and I've been totally backed up.I usually go 2-3 times per day but I didn't poop for 4 days straight an was visably bloated in my lower stomach (I'm pretty lean with all abs showing). I've taken measures yesterday and today (colax) along with some broccoli soup and things are moving again. Looks as though I'll have to stick to getting my fibre in each day ???

If you start your ulc run with fiber your body will rely on it for digestion purposes so to cut it out all together would cause exactly what you are experiencing. If you want to lose the fiber it would probably be best to reduce it a bit at a time. Make sure your fats are very high as well to help the food pass through your system.

This worked for me. I took a relatively gradual approach to significantly reducing fiber. I also make sure to get plenty of fat - 1:1 ratio with protein. This is my 2nd stint on CNS, and I seem to be more regular using this approach than I was when taking in close to 30g of carbs a day, with fiber.
