Gl;itch.eMemberhttp://suppversity.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/the-glucose-repartioning-effects-of.htmlObviously Leucine is still king for mTOR, but since we DHers/S.H.I.Ts/Kieferites are also interested in maximising Glut-4 expression in muscles I thought this may be of interest. Would love to hear how Kiefer would interpret this study and whether he'd have any recommendations to experiment with. I wonder if Isoleucine on its own could be used during the day to send more glucose to the muscle and perhaps help empty liver glycogen while ULC and potentially burn more fat?

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorI saw this too. I posted it in the FB group. It is interesting, I'll be following for any insights to this.

Is that the DH group? Ill have to check that out when I get home. Cant view facebook at work! (;I think it could make for an interesting experiment. Isoleucine would have no/very little effect on insulin when consumed alone so could be used during the ULC period if it turns out to be useful.

Richard SchmittModeratorCan you get isoleucine by itself?

It is rarer to find than Leucine or the BCAAs mix but still available. I checked True Nutrition earlier and they had it. I guess for people that want to mix their own BCAA formula to different ratios. Id consider experimenting with it myself but Im in weight gain mode at the moment and probably wouldnt notice the effects!

Well the article talked about it's usefulness with lean mass gains.Anyway, when I get some extra cash I might be willing to play around with it.

Richard SchmittModeratorWell I'm already using Leucine to take affects of the anabolic properties, if ISOleucine can help with lean gains as well as what is discussed with glycogen emptying, I think whenever the extra cash comes the whole move towards getting TN protein, potato starch, and this ISOleucine might be worth getting. I need to read up on it. I'm curious to know why the Facebook group hasn't chime in on it?

tzanghiParticipantWhy not just get a normal BCAAs supplement? It has Isoleucine in it. Just add enough to get your 5g of leucine in your shakes. You can find BCAA mixes for roughly the same price as leucine(if not cheaper).

JakeMemberYou can also get 1.5 grams of isoleucine just from having ~25g of whey so you could just have about 25 grams of whey with each of your carb meals rather than go buy this separately.

It's not the same, though. Taking instantized BCAAs allows them to enter the blood stream very quickly after consumption without any other slow-digestion supplements or foods. Whey will take a good amount of time for the body to break down and allow the individual aminos to enter the blood stream. This will make the signals much less pronounced. This is why instantized leucine is taken instead of just lots of whey.

It may not have the same strength of effect but it would still be beneficial in terms of glut4 activation to have isoleucine from whey with carb meals.

I disagree. I believe by the time the whey is broken down the carbs will mostly be through the system. Not to mention, at levels that low, the effect your looking for from the isoleucine is going to be nominal.

This!I just take BCAAs post-workout. Most mixes are 2:1:1 in favor of Leucine, mine is 8:1:1.Cory

Gl;itch.eMemberIf it has any use or relevance to us DHers we'd want to use Isoleucine on its own during the ULC period. Whey or BCAAs would contain leucine which does effect insulin levels. This way we'd be getting the effect we want without the calories/insulin spike to sabotage it. Its all conjecture obviously because I have no idea if itd actually work! Its only a thought at this stage.
