your fine if you are getting the metallic taste in your mouth. You are in ketosis, just the ketones are not spilling over into you urine.

Combat4125GuestYou can go to any drugstore and buy Keto sticks. They're like a PH strip you use to check the PH levels in your pool. You can pee on the stick and match the colour of the keto stick to tell you how far into ketosis you've reached.Last time I bought a kit, it was about $8 and had 50+ test strips included.Easy as pie!

FairyGuestKeto sticks don't work because they only indicate an excess production of ketones — if you're actually using them as an energy source you shouldn't be peeing them out.

Damon AmatoParticipantThey work fine, they just aren't useful.

You having keto symptoms means you are in keto. You are just burning enough ketones that they are not spilling into your urine. That's all. What the keto stix say doesn't matter. All the MCT oil will do is flood your system with a quick burst of ketones.

CainoParticipantThanks for clearing that up, this might be a stulid question and yes i read the book, but once we start our cbl do we remain in ketosis during the days?

Of course no. CBL allows to keep insulin level very low until after workout. You are not in ketosis with all carbs you eat post-workout.In CNS I must waiting for 3-4 days WITHOUT carbs to be in ketosis. With CBL you'll only have hours without carbs

Yes i thought that, but with kiefers whacky science i i thought there was some sort of justification that the body only absorbs all carbs in muscle, my bad

Why does this sound wrong to me? If teaching your body how to be in ketosis isn't important to CBL than why do the prep phase? I thought the point was to use that window after workouts to re-up your glycogen stores then get back into ketogenisis once you wake up. I have the book, but maybe I am missing something here.

Jack O'NeillMemberI would say that the prep-phase allows your body to be … prepared 🙂It's a way to your body to use fat as fuel instead of carbs.

Based on my understanding, the prep-phase is not so much about what happens during the day as it is about what your body does with carbs when you DO eat them at night. Your muscles are gonna soak up carbs like there's no tomorrow no matter what on CBL thanks to resistance training, but the idea of the prep-phase is to make your fat cells as resistant and desensitized to insulin as possible. CBL is not designed specifically towards fat loss the way CNS is. You're not in ketogenesis 90% of the time like you are on CNS.Although some people have actually lost body fat on CBL, its true purpose is to give your muscles all the benefits of carbohydrates while storing little to none of those carbs as fat. Hope this helps clear it up somewhat. Some of the more knowledgeable CBL vets can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.
