Whoops, the title was supposed to read: KO'd by carbs.  Carb Nite is not fun.  I think Kiefer's ideas are brilliant, and I know they're highly effective, but the actual Carb Night itself seems to be a Herculean endeavor.  This is like the fourth time that I'm giving it a go as opposed to CBL, and my only problem is I can't actually get the required amount of carbs (I'm 165 now so I believe the recommendation is about 700 grams) without it being a rather unpleasant experience.  I've cut out the majority of my protein on CN and this has made it somewhat easier, but I seem to top out around 350-400.  I must be doing it wrong.  Help!  Do you all think having many varies food soruces helps you as opposed to trying to just eat a super giant XXXXXXXXXXXL portion of one thing?-Adam

Why would you just eat one thing? I definatly would try mixing it up. Just eat everything that you want to eat/has carbs. Also, really watch the protein and maybe fat if you are getting full to fast. I noticed that was a problem on my first Carb nite.

Thanks for responding.  Ha yeah the problem is that I'm so used to eating super clean that I don't actually want anything with tons of carbs in it except for maybe some white rice.  I think limiting the protein and fat is really good advice, but man…what does that leave you with other than super duper processed junk?  Or is the idea that processed junk can still help for those at BF levels around 10 percent?-Adam

Process junk can and will help you, even more so on carb night vs CBL. Ice cream FTW!

Trevor,So definitively, even at lean levels processed crap will help the fat loss process?-Adam

I'd still try to keep it a little more on the “clean” side for the first half of the night, but you'll never get enough carbs without junk.On CBL after leg day I use ice cream because it's the only way I've managed to get 600+ carbs without puking.Edit; so yes, it will help with fat loss by causing the proper hormonal response.

Alright, my ethics with regards to supporting the grain industry may be temporarily weakening in that case…Do you have any good suggestions for how to tell if I'm allergic to gluten or not?-Adam

Take gluten completely out the next CN. If you can get past the 300g mark with not feeling full or uncomfortable, that could be a sign. Next CN, re-introduce a gluten food to see what happens. If bloat up like huge during the CN and feel full/uncomfortable then you're gluten allergic.

I just wouldn't eat gluten at all, even if you can handle it most people can eat more without it.That said, I get some nasty IBS and look pregnant.

I think the only way to tell is to experiment on yourself, have a gluten packed Carb Nite. Ditto on the processed vs non-processed Carb Nites. I use to avoid gluten, dairy, and fructose, and general junk on Carb Nite, till one time I got really frustrated so I had heaps of it, but I got better results in the end, now I just don't worry about it.EDIT: If you're not enjoying Carb Nites then you're probably over thinking it, like I used to. Don't even count, allocate 4 hours and just hit the town with friends, eat servings from every place that tickles your fancy. Waiting time, walking between places, chatting, will pace you out and you'll finish the night satisfied but still able to walk.

Yeah with regards to the gluten, I haven't anything containing gluten for about 8 months now, so a bit wary of consuming it, but man, getting to 800 grams is tough stuff.  So far I've had: 3/4ths of a box of gluten-free kid's cereal A huge heaping bowl of Thai Jasmine Rice5 small bananas3 gluten-free donuts (still have nine of these fuckers to go tonight but they're tough to get down fast because of all the fat)Like...am I just miscalculating and actually close to enough with what I have listed?  Again, stats are 165 lb. male roughly 10% BF.-Adam

To Trevor: I've actually looked into ice cream but it's not really carb-dense at all.

You might be miscalculating, that seems like a lot.I find rice to be much more filling most of the time.Same with bananas.Donuts are the shit.I can down 1.5 qt of ice cream, nearly 250g carbs and still be hungry.I've made ice cream sandwiches with gluten free pancakes and ice cream and was able to down nearly 500g pretty easy before.

Maybe fry that rice? Making it taste better might make you eat more. Whip up a chicken curry with that rice, I can always eat more rice with curry on the side.

+1 on curry, I can always eat more rice that way.
