AdamFiddlerGuestTrevor: Is there any type of CBL-like chart in terms of min carbs by weight that you know of for CNS?
August 7, 2012 at 1:33 am #70892
AdamFiddlerGuestHmmm I could do some curry, but the rice really wasn't a problem. I'll give it a shot next CN though.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorThere is not.Pretty much it's go balls to the wall with it.I like to count and I just don't feel good if I don't hit at least 700g+, I've never got more then 900 but I did feel really good with that.

AdamFiddlerGuestLike…there must be something I'm doing really wrong then, because this is the first time in my life I haven't been able to eat enough. --Maybe I should start the Carb Nite earlier? It tends to be around 7 o' clock or later and done by about 10. I assume when you're eating 900 grams of carbs it's over about 5 or 6 hours or so?--Maybe I just shouldn't even eat at all the day of Carb Nite except for morning coffee with some butter and minmal whey before training?

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorIt's about 4 hours, and after a heavy ass training session.Part of it is the food choices, processed foods don't have same satiating effect as whole foods, so eating "dirty" foods just allows you to eat more. I'm backloading right now and I've got 250g from PWO shake, rice and taco shells and I have 250g worth of ice cream in the freezer, plus I'll have some sweet tea to round it out.If I were to just focus on rice products, I'd only be able to get 400g or so.

AdamFiddlerGuestThat's interesting. When I do things like that gelato I mentioned, I can barely get to 400, but tonight was the most of I've been able to do and it was almost all rice products. If you say that what I had there looks like a lot, then I'll pretty much take you word for it. Regardless, for the next one I'm going to buy a few different raw grass-fed cheeses, some King Arthur gluten-free flour, make some homemade tomato sauce with whatever high glycemic hack I can come up with, and do a huge-ass pizza. Other than that, will supplement with that gluten-free cereal. Honestly, the whole thing just strikes me as very odd I guess, that people are having such success putting all kinds of crap in their bodies, mostly because adipose tissue tends to be where things like pesticides are actually stored in my understanding of things. It also strikes me as very odd that there is not some way to do this with just whole foods and things like cassava starch. I'm pretty convinced there is, and that I just either haven't figured out how to do it yet or given it enough time, but unless super high blood sugar is some kind of protective response to all the crap that's in the processed foods (and I have no idea why this would be the case), then I'm really convinced that somehow using whole foods very effectively can work at least equally as well, for a variety of reasons. You see what I'm saying?-Adam

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorPizza is the way to go!I've been able to hammer down 2 whole pizza like it was nothing before. And I do get what you're saying, and I believe it's totally possible, it's just harder.I've had nights were I eat nothing but rice/potato based products, this includes baking with the flours, and I've managed to get lots of carbs but it was to be in a longer span of time and with less water intake, which during these hot ass OK summers isn't happening. I might have mentioned this to you before, but look into Grass-fed whole milk, I find milk makes me hungrier most of the time, plus you'll get a super spike in insulin.

AdamFiddlerGuestYeah after reading everything you've said, I think the following changes should help a lot:Minimal food before Carb NiteStart Carb Nite earlier and give myself six hours instead of the three I usually end up withOne gluten-free, extra cheese, skirt steak hawiaan pizza, coming up...Thanks again for all the input. -Adam

Cmf10024MemberWhoops, the title was supposed to read: KO'd by carbs. Carb Nite is not fun. I think Kiefer's ideas are brilliant, and I know they're highly effective, but the actual Carb Night itself seems to be a Herculean endeavor. This is like the fourth time that I'm giving it a go as opposed to CBL, and my only problem is I can't actually get the required amount of carbs (I'm 165 now so I believe the recommendation is about 700 grams) without it being a rather unpleasant experience. I've cut out the majority of my protein on CN and this has made it somewhat easier, but I seem to top out around 350-400. I must be doing it wrong. Help! Do you all think having many varies food soruces helps you as opposed to trying to just eat a super giant XXXXXXXXXXXL portion of one thing?I'm about 160 and 10 percent BF. Doing my second CN tonight. Was curious where you got the 700 gram recommendation from. Was it in the book?Im at about 400gms so far tonight. Thanks,Craig

nickl413MemberI can get more in if I supplement with smarties. Great taste, less filling. Tons of dextrose. Seriously, I can smash your entire carb night in less than an hour lol

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorHonestly, on CN, just go crazy.Only start worrying about amounts when you start to get fairly lean.
