Big_RParticipant500mg dosages are quite low but hey, it's better than nothing. you could take 5 at a time LOL Secondly, unless anything has changed with CNS protocol, you should only be using that Post-workout where insulin will rise anyway do to resistance training. One of the guidelines of CNS is to minimize insulin response via ultra low carb meals unless you are having your carb nite - Leucine will do the opposite and amplify insulin response, so use it only pwo with your shake as recommended.

bbuchanMemberUse this post workout with your isolate to give a small insulin spike (to halt catabolism). FOr CNS don't use it any other time. ALso take about 10 of those pills. Generally I use 5g of leucine and each of those capsules is 500mg so take 10.

samuel r walkerParticipantGo for a powder form next time to get more for your money, most whey powders have leucine in em already at around 3g per scoop, which is enough, anything over 5 isnt necessary

Supplementing with anything over 5 g is a waste. I don't know for sure, but I would guess leucine as part of an intact protein is not the same as free leucine. This is why Kiefer recommends leucine in addition to to 50 g of protein powder.

clem85GuestDitto to what everyone else has said. I get my whey and leucine from truenutrition.com (one of the places you can get KIefer's custom protein blends). It's pretty reasonably priced and a whole lot easier than popping all of those pills.

gracieinbocaGuestWhat is the brand name of the custom blends from Kiefer, at truenutrition.com?

I don't think he has one at TN, I think he only has one at Protein Factory, which is obsolete.

AugustGuestCouldn't you take L-Leucine supplements with your Carb Nites? It would seem to me that the insulin-spiking attributes of L-Leucine would be a plus during a Carb Nite. Are Carbohydrates the only thing that can be used to spike insulin on Carb Nites or can you use other insulinogenic substances in addition to (probably not instead of) carbohydrates to spike insulin on Carb Nites?

You can add leucine with each meal during your carb nite.

Alexander BaurParticipantWhat would be the benefit to add it to every meal on CN?
