Colin HallMemberIf leucine is as good as all the science suggests in the muscle building process shouldn't it be taken regularly over 36 hours after a workout to enhance muscle building .? I am aware of its insulin spiking effects but during winter when fat storage isn't to big an issue(especially in uk!) what does everyone think about following cbl protocol but regularly supplementing leucine?ŷ

Kiefer actually wrote an article on this a few years. He actually suggested hard gainers drink a protein shake comprised of hydrolysates, casein protein, and leucine every 3-4 hours. This was not part of the CBL protocol, just advice for hardgainers. If you want to try that go ahead.

CBachelor17MemberIn addition you might read up on Amino Spiking. T-Nation did an article on it- and i think it has mentioned by Keifer though I could be wrong. Also I don't think while running DB (or SA for that matter) a BCAA and/or Leucine drink even every few hours will lead to any fat gain. Although I could see it inhibiting your fat burning.

I would agree with that as well.

I've done this with leucine, never anything like hydrolysates though. Anyway, I can vouch for the fact I didn't gain any fat while doing this and I feel like it helps recovery and muscle growth though only slightly assuming you aren't also trying to fast the entire day. I do notice I don't lean down as much when I do it though. With the fasting comment, If you are doing to fast until PWO at night, I would have some leucine and maybe 10g of whey every 2-4 hours.

CBachelor17MemberIve been doing BCAA first thing in the morning and usually with one meal (pre backload) and with dinner on non training days. Since starting DB I'm leaner.. Since starting CBL altogether I'm up from 162 to now holding steady at 171.

Gl;itch.eMemberon Leucine and fat gain. I personally think this idea is really over blown. 1. 5g of Leucine is NOT 100g+ of carbs, heck 5g of Leucine probably isnt even as insulinogenic as 5g of glucose. Its effect on insulin (on its own) is not going to be that substantial. See below. So if consumed during ULC without carbs its effect should not potentiate fat gain. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/190133002. This is purely anecdotal, but the first time I used leucine I lost fat and gained muscle at the same time (probably only about 2kgs worth) though I have generally noticed the ability to stay leaner when using Leucine as opposed to when not. Consider that Leucine is turning on protein synthesis which is an energy demanding process, and that if taken at times without carbs insulin isnt really getting much of a boost, and that in order for protein synthesis to continue ample energy must be provided. I think all these things translate to increased likely-hood of fat loss not gain when using Leucine. You know what? All this talk has made me think of going back to taking Leucine during the day like I used to do pre-CBL to see how it runs.

Scope75GuestSOB!!!!Looks like I'll start hitting BCAAs threw out the day like I use to before I started these DH/CN/CBL protocols.

Like said i have been using BCAA on a 3:1:1 ratio throughout the day running my CBL-DB and have not got fat.. First thing in my stomach every morning is BCAA

Richard SchmittModeratorDoes that help or should it be pushed later in the morning?

CBachelor17MemberFirst thing is going to jump start MPS. First thing is best for gains IMO. T-Nation has a pretty good article on it “Amino Spiking”. Im not following there exact recommendations but I do take the BCAA with meals and first thing

GnomerParticipanti also have been taking BCAAs first thing in the AM for several weeks now.. no ill effects as of yet
December 15, 2013 at 12:17 am #210588
Richard SchmittModeratorI would like to try it. Anything to help. Plus I take a fat coffee in the morning so wouldn't know how it would affect the MPS.
