legion78MemberFirst, I know this diet is different than Atkins, however I keep failing to convincingly explain to a client WHY it is different…….can someone help me explain how this is NOT like Atkins?Second, after I get a client to their ideal BF% goals..........how do I implement a maintenance program so they don't gain all that weight back?

thestiffmeisterParticipantI think you can stick to the basic principles for life or move into something more like CBL. Avoiding carbs before dinner will always be a good thing, they just won't have to be so careful about the amounts and just eat until satisfied. Teach them to listen to their body and self-regulate, that's the hardest part.CN is not Atkins, it is more scientific and much more simple to follow. Atkins recommends more fat and allows people to eat more and more carbs every day over time whereas CN is always strict ULC. As you lean out on CN, you don't have more carbs every day, you just have a carb nite more often. CN is retard-proof, Atkins is not. Atkins is better than the SAD, but for someone who wants maximum fat loss, go for CN. I hate the fact that Atkins has 4 phases.Seriously tough, just read the book, it will enlighten you.

Jas0nGuest1. It is considerably different and much more scientifically grounded than the Atkins diet. Whether it is the emphasis on food quality as opposed to eating everything and anything that contains protein/fat as macros, the inclusion of refeeds for reigniting hormonal levels for long term fat loss etc. It is a lot simpler than Atkins and also a lot more effective.2. You could transition your clients into a CNS/CBL type hybrid or a straight CBL (SA/DB based on client goals) if they are more fitness oriented or simply slowly increase carb intake so long as it's localized at night time (ala spanish ketogenic diet). No disrespect legion but I would not recommend CNS/CBL to clients until you are better able to articulate why it is that you are recommending CNS over any other diet (why is it differet, why is it better etc) as well as have the ability take your clients through the process and tell them what they can expect from it, otherwise we will end up alienating people from a modality that could be of great help to them.

legion78MemberThanks guys, I appreciate the advice. It's not that I do not know how this can help my clients. I do, I just suck at explaining it properly for them to grasp full understanding. Articulation is not my strong suit

thestiffmeisterParticipantYou can also tell them CN is designed to avoid the stalling problems of a prolonged low-carb diet, and this is especially important both for getting very lean and to sustain performance. Plus Atkins is not fun, let's be honnest. I'd rather have a carb orgy once a week than stick to between 100 and 0 carbs for the rest of my life. That's kind of boring. The psychological effects of a refeed are also important.

Lesli BortzParticipant“If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't understand it yourself.”~Albert EinsteinAs a teacher - I live by this motto. Trust me, I can't explain CBL/CNS that well but I would become much more versed before applying it to clients. That said, all I can really respond to is how to keep them from not gaining the weight back is not returning to their old eating habits. Any "diet" that will work long-term is something that needs to be done long-term or it's just a fad and a quick fix. It needs to become their lifestyle.

mwachtelParticipantThe new Podcast w/ DR. Patel may help….Pt.1 he talks about the shock ppl have when he explains what it is, similiarily, when I try explaining it to ppl they think im insane. Also, Atkins, Allows the reintroduction of carbs, and ultimately, I believe it is common that ppl just fall back to where they were before b/c of this....hence Atkins blows.

I also believe Atkins only allows low glycemic carbs too, which pretty much stops fat burning all day.
