So, I am loving CBL. I love the energy I feel working out and I can tell I'm losing body fat while gaining muscle. However, the trade off is I am having rock solid abs ( and no its not a six pack). My intestines feel logged jammed. I am starving hungry right now but I feel that every new bite is like shoving more dough into a full biscuit can! Ive eaten gluten my whole life with no problems so I don't this that is the problem. The past two nights I have not been able to sleep because my stomach is killing me… My wife is wanting me to drop this “new diet”. We discovered that I am probably not eating enough fiber and this may be the cause. SO I loaded up on fiber yesterday and I think that made it worse (probably too much too quickly). So, here is questions1. It is pretty difficult to eat enough fiber from vegetables only without any grains unless I ate like a pound of spinach a day (and I hate spinach). All the simple sugars at night have no fiber (white bread, white rice, cookies, ice cream). Therefore I am backed up like a brick! I just got some chia seeds to start eating (5.5 grams of fiber per tbsp). Can we take any fiber foods at night with the backload or must they be avoided? Also, I am not wanting to use fiber supplements as a my primary tool to make up the loss... I had rather use real food.2. I am still personally having a hard time with the idea of never eating a piece of whole wheat bread again or a bowl of oatmeal again even though I understand the science. I don't want to short circuit the process by prolonging insulin beyond the window of time at night. However, what are you guys thoughts on this... would it be possible to eat a small portion of low glycemic fiber foods (like 2 slices of whole wheat bread or a bowl of oat mill) one night a week and couple this with plenty of high glycemic carbs for backloading. If the small portion of low glycemic carbs are eaten early (6pm) and the rest of the night eat only high glycemic. Would this destroy everything and make me grow forehead fat and give me a triple chin? I was not thinking to do this every backload but maybe once a week for digestive purposes? Thoughts?

Even if you have never had an issue with gluten before I always suggest removing it for 2-3 weeks and seeing what happens when issues like this come up.Also, how much fat are you eating and water are you drinking? Both of those play a large part in having proper bowel movements. You could try taking some magnesium like natural calm, that will likely get things moving.Honestly, people really don't need as much fiber as they thing they do, and even Keifer said recently that to much fiber from the wrong sources can stall people, he gave fiber supplements as one example.

I religiously had some Metamucil every night to make sure I was good to go the next morning.  After reading what Kiefer posted I slowly cut back and my system got used to it.  I can say my results have been coming along faster while eliminating it.As far as the fiber issues go, do you like lettuce or anything leafy like that (besides spinach)?

I am on the other side of the fence. Since switching to CBL I have been more regular and consistent. Then again I am in my early 20s.I basically stick to lettuce with my ground beef. Maybe add some cherries and/or prunes to your back loads.

I take psyllium husk for some extra fiber, but I am the same way.  If I eat only meat and vegetables, I get really constipated.  I highly reccomend sweet potatos or even normal potatos in your backloads.  They are fairly high in fiber and high glycemic too.  Having a little bit of fiber in your backloads won't hurt progress.  Actually I get about half my fiber in my backloads.Other advice is to make sure you are drinking plenty of water and fat.  Both, with the fiber, will help things move.

Yea tried that technique for like two weeks and it didn't work.  I need some fiber.  Not 38 grams but at least a little.

I'd say it depends on the vegetables you are eating. Go for the cruciferous / brassica types, e.g. cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. Very high in fibre and should get things moving internally without having to use supplements. They need to be eaten cooked, not raw.Hope that helps.

Hey guys, I appreciate all the advise… After three days of intense stomach pain and not sleeping, I decided to come off the diet for a few days. I have been off CBL for two days now and have been eating “fruit, veggies and some crackers” and it seems to be helping and healing. I think I was constipated and I think my body was just not responding well to doing huge backloads. I think I need to be smarter next time and ease into it. Maybe do some cleaner carbs, eat more fiber and not try and eat the whole kitchen sink from the start…I am thinking I will take three days off (Eat normal) then I will go ULC for 2-3 days with HITT. Then I'll start CBL again... Does that sound good to y'all?

not really long enough while re-starting the prep phase to get you back in ketosis.  Do the entire prep phase to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Crap!!! I was afraid of that… Actually, this morning is the start of the second day so I have actually only been off CBL for 1 day and I had some watermelon this morning… So if I go ULC the rest of today and the next 2-3 days, do u think that would be fine? The 10 day prep phase sucked!!!

hard to say.  Might be ok.  Depends on when the metabolic switch over happens.

I have no idea if my metabolic switch happened? I feel the same…

Also, if you aren't used to eating fairly high fat you could try taking some Betaine HCL pills before higher fat meals and maybe before bed. I had to do that for a while and it made a huge difference.

I love me some Kim-chee.  It is in the book under ultra low carb veggies.  Basically it's spicy fermented cabbage, Korean Sauerkraut.  Perhaps it's an acquired taste but because of the cabbage it should help with digestive issues.
