CBachelor17MemberCorrect, Quaker does use Brown Rice, I buy store brand that makes theres with less sugar, and a (White Rice/Salt) Combo. Just to make sure that it is high GI, and as I said contain less sugar. Esp if you watch what flavor you choose (e.g. Caramel is going to have more Sugar than Cinnamon Spice) Although, the brown rice in the cakes is likely broken down/processed enough that it will give a similar spike. As for the Syrup you could do many things, Corn Syrup and Maple Extract will probably work. But there are several brands of Sugar Free Syrup that you can use as well. I would go for the ones that say (Sweetened w/Splenda) on the front to avoid any gastrointestinal discomfort from the "nastier" sugar alcohol some companies use. "Vermont" Brand is a good one.

Walter NorwoodParticipantThanks – so at the point, if it's sweetened with splenda, I wouldn't be using it toward my carb count for the night? More or less the flavoring?

CBachelor17MemberThe sugar free syrup has like 5g of carbs per 1/4 Cup. I doubt youll be eating enough of it to worry about it haha ???

Walter NorwoodParticipantGotcha – that's what I was saying. I was hoping to use some maple syrup to replace dextrose, but it sounds like I'm already taking the optimal route by using dextrose. That being said, is there any difference between dextrose powder and Karo syrup? I like the idea of the syrup w/ maple flavoring so I can get the carb count up.Thanks again for all of your responses.

Brandon D ChristParticipantHey C-Bachelor - I actually make my own ice cream...my CarbNite is all low-fat except the last meal has some. Here is what I'm trying this time:Ice cream made from 10 TBSP sugar free pumpkin spice coffee creamer (about 3/4 c., roughly 20g fat)1.25 c. skim milk1/2 c. dextroseThen I was planning to add 1/8 or 1/4 c. maple sypup and two ripe bananasThe rest of my CarbNite is: Jasmine Rice, Rice Krisipes w/ dextrose and skim milk, Rice Pudding with skim milk and dextrose, then the ice cream...
I think CBach's point was just that you're OPTIMALLY better off doing fructose early in your CN as opposed to later. The reason being that your liver can soak up the fructose before it fills up with other sugars.. If you fill your liver up, then have a bunch of fructose, it has nowhere to go except to fat (Very simply put,anyway)..But, if you're still making progress doing what you're doing, keep on it and save the changes for when/if you stall, as I always say!
This line of thinking makes sense to me, but according to Kiefer, it's best to break the ketogenic cycle with pure glucose. He actually says to save the stuff with lots of sugar towards the end of the Carb Nite. However, I heard him say the opposite too, so...yea.Seriously don't worry about fructose on Carb Nite. You have to be chugging soft drinks for it to be a problem.

CBachelor17MemberIm not familiar with Kyro Syrup at all. Something you'll have to research there. ibob I see what you are saying but additionally avoiding fructose is optimal. The sweets he always suggests are things like Cake and Donuts. Which yes have sugar content, but you cant ignore the fact that he's not suggesting pure sugar substances. The flour (starch) part of an Apple Fritter, Chocolate Donut, Turnover is what is going to be used more readily for glycogen. And his later videos/discussions on initiating CN he says to start with something "sweet and low fat" as sort of a "treat to kick the night off" then moving on later to eat pizza, etc.

You are essentially reiterating what I said. I just said don't consume pure sugar, but other than that, it really isn't an issue.Kiefer has also said that fructose has not really been an issue with his clients.

CBachelor17MemberIndeed, i was concurring with you in a way. Just saying that if your consuming a carb meal thats 100% sugars, when you can easily replace some and/or all of it with something else thats still a "treat" thats going to be optimal.

Walter NorwoodParticipantSo do you think I would be better off eliminating the dextrose powder from my CarbNite in favor of real foods?I try to do it with real foods as much as possible while still hitting 800g carbs for the night...but it's very difficult as I eat all of my carbs over a 6 hour window.

CBachelor17MemberI really think you need to re-reed this entire discussion, and do some outside research lol its pretty cut and dry at this point. Dextrose= 1 GlucoseSucrose(Sugar)= 1 Glucose + 1FructoseFructose=1 FructoseDextrose is IDEAL Fructose is not.

Richard SchmittModeratorSuap you're making it more complicated and over thinking it.

Walter NorwoodParticipantMy bad, I tend to do that…Thanks guys - CBach, great breakdown.

+1If you want a breakdown, make every meal on Carb Nite starch based and if you want, you can have a dessert to compliment it.
