Please tell me your melatonin dosage is under a 1 mg. Doses higher then that are for Jet lag and you do not want to take doses this high regularly as it may decrease your natural melatonin secretion.

Have you been able to find any solid studies to show that?I take 6mg pretty much daily, but even if I stop taking it I have no trouble falling to sleep.

No studies, just my (and many others) speculation. For relaxation purposes, all you need is 300 mcg or so. I wonder though, why would you take it if you don't have any trouble sleeping without it?

I mostly take that much because it's the dosage that I find most often. I can easily fall asleep with out it, but I get more an average of 30 minutes more deep sleep and cut the time to fall asleep from around 15 minutes to 10 with it as measured with my Zeo.If I ever go a few weeks without taking it I still sleep easily it's just that slight increase in quality is worth the $10 it cost me for a couple of months worth.

Fair enough, how do you like the Zeo?

I like it.I don't use it as often now, but if I start adjust my schedule or trying new supplements it's nice to have a way to track my sleep. The alarm clock feature when using the headband is my favorite part now, although most of the time I wake up a few minutes before the alarm clock goes of anyway.

Marty P KochParticipantI've mentioned this on here before, but pertinent to this conversation, my Rheumatologist has me on melatonin as I have trouble sleeping regardless and especially during times of stress or a flare-up. Sleep deprivation causes flare-ups, then pain patterns cause sleep interruptions, so it sometimes creates a vicious cycle of pain, therefore less sleep, therefore more pain…She had me start at 1mg and increase the dose by 1mg each week until I was able to get to 8 solid continuous hours. Just so, I worked my way up to 15 mg. She said she has one patient taking 28 mg right now. The melatonin is pharmaceutical grade, slow-release and doesn't contain any other fillers, etc.It is very individual, so if you have issues, I suggest maybe trying this brand http://www.dhea.com/product.php?productid=17516&cat=0&page=0&featured=Y and seeing where it gets you.

Brandon D ChristParticipantIn regards to melatonin, I typically take 5 mg when I need it. I find it works well if my sleep schedule has to change by two hours or less. If it is anymore, it doesn't do anything. Just thought I'd share my experience with it.

samuel r walkerParticipantIve been taking 3 mg caps to compliment the gaba powder.. To my understanding gaba promotes the realease of GH while melatonin decreases the breakdown of GH. It doesnt seem to rlly affect my sleep, except maybe a little more groggy in the morning.

Richard SchmittModeratorI take one pill which is 3mg and I sleep great. Took some last night and I'm sleepy tonight without it.

Cory McCarthyMemberThere was a study that showed dosing 5mg of Melatonin pre-workout to be effective in inhibiting GH breakdown. Stack w/ 3-5g of GABA. Only works for men, and before exercise. It works by decreasing Somatostatin (the hormone that breaks down GH).Read about it in the M&F issue from Aug. 2009.Cory

Brandon D ChristParticipantSpeaking of GABA, that supplement has a very profound effect on me. It actually makes my mind race and I feel anxious when I take it.
