So over the last year or so, I've used CBL or a style similar of eating ro diet down to single digit bf, and then gain roughly 30ish lbs while not becoming a fat ass.I've experimented with peri-wo carbs. Pre is a no go, but intra does seem to help a lot. However, I've had to switch from training in the evening to training midday, in the noon-2pm period. Idk of intraWO carbs would be good or not seeing as this is the shittiest time to train for CBL. What would y'all suggest I do? I usually take in about 50g C from Gatorade 15 mins into my WO, and it makes a difference (obviously this was when I lifted at a more CBL optimal time)My goals are to Density bulk, move my bodyweight from 205ish (pre prep phase) to about 225-230. Today is my last day of my prep phase, of which I lost 13 lbs. I haven't been active on these forums for some time. So if I've missed something and this is a stupid question now, please just point me in the right direction.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk

I would take them if you think they help.  While significantly more expensive than Gatorade, I would get some Glycofuse.  I think it makes a big difference in your workout stamina.  And you really only need 25 g of carbs.I would avoid Gatorade because it is half fructose, which really isn't ideal.  You want glucose.  If the Glycofuse is too expensive, I would get Waxy Maize or some kind of Amylopectin based carb.

So Waxy Maize Starch would be good for post workout and a good way to start a BL?

I think it would be good for intra workout.  For post workout and backloads, dextrose and maltodextrin would likely be better.

I don't use intra carbs but I have some WMS from when I did and wondered about using it postWO or as a way to start a BL since from what I remember its a High GI quick clearing carb or I'm I remembering wrong and its lower GI?

    It's probably fine PWO.

After thinking about it I'll probably just toss it because it doesn't make anything taste better and I'm not much on drinking chalk PWO and Fruity Pebbles taste better. Glad it was a cheap carb thou.

Hey Spidey! Welcome back. Hope you've been looking after the carb backloading thread on T-Nation for me! (:I use about 30g of sugars (20g sucrose 10g dextrose) during workouts and have also found it to help heaps. I am training just after 5 which is a bit more optimal, though I also eat carbs pre-workout as well. I think (contrary to what most preach) that sugars like Sucrose are perfect during workouts. While Fructose is continually vilified for causing acts of terror, genocides and tsunamis the world round, it actually makes perfect sense to use a sugar thats 1. Easily digested and converted into Glycogen 2. Non insulin dependent (stabilizes blood sugar during training.) 3. Assists Glucose uptake and utilization.BTW its cheap and its only a carb FFS and IMO carbs should never cost more than protein!

Thanks everyone. I tried the 30g of carbs as opposed to the 60g I was using. Seems to allow the advantages of intra-WO carbs, while still not just shooting insulin sky-high.Gl;itche.e -- Nice to see you man. I still log on Tnation frequently. How's progress been? Still CBL'ing? You say you're using pre-WO carbs now, mind elaborating. Also if ya'll care, I'll start a log here. I'm going to attempt to use Density Bulking to get to 220+ lbs without becoming a fat ass in over the 4-6 months (I'm about 205 now, 6'2" though so lots of room on my lanky frame).

Progress has been off and on. Ironically the more off track of cbl I go the better I seem to do LOL. Thats part of the reason I've added more carbs in earlier in the day. I just wasn't able to add any weight. Since doing a little extra carbs I've been able to add a bit more weight and my strength has started to improve again. I think I might have just been riding this low carb horse for too long. Before CBL it was IF and before that it was the anabolic diet (talking about the last 5 years here I think).

Yea you don't need much.  Personally I think you should avoid intra workout carbs if possible, but I find 20-30 g or so let's you train intensely for up to 2 hours, which is enough for most people.
