David BergMemberI am doing strength accumulation. ..I am concerned about losing muscle. Thats the very last thing I want to do obviously. For pure convenience since I am a truck driver could it be possible for me to instead of have the am accelerator shake have one slice of turkey rolled up in one stick of string cheese and eat a tablespoon of coconut oil right before. Would this have pretty much the same insulin effect as the am accelerator shake? I know I am missing the caffeine but right now I just want to try this. This comes out to like 12 grams protein and 20 grams fat. I know there is leucine in turkey that could spike it but I'm not sure how much there is in one ounce…these nutrition labels are going to have to start labeling leucine in their contents LOL

Richard SchmittModeratorYou can have a ULC morning meal (fat and protein) instead of the AM Shake, it's fine. You're just trying to avoid carbs in the mornings, like cereal and toast for example. You can have coffee with it too if you want.

Brandon D ChristParticipantThat's fine. Losing muscle is unlikely unless you are starving yourself.

David BergMemberOk thanx for the replies guys…I'm just nervous I'm gonna over do the protein and get too big of an insulin response or not enough and lose muscle. I workout 3 days a week. Now for off days when they are all ulc with no cbl should I eat different throughout the day...maybe spread my protein out so it hits closer to say 140 grams at the end of the day and not worry about the protein kicking me out of fat burning? This is the part I am confused.

Don't worry so much. Just stay away from carbs when you aren't supposed to eat them and insulin won't be a problem. For ULC days I would have protein in every meal, but it doesn't have to be spread evenly.

David BergMemberOk then I will just go ahead and try not to eat protein alone and not worry about insulin response with protein. Now as far as the second half of the day (post workout) I will just try 200 carbs and see how I feel. Should I take 5g leucine before every post workout meal? I'm thinking as soon as I finish workout take 5 g leucine to let it get in there and kickstart everything, then 30 minutes later have hypertrophic potential or and then keep eating carbs with some protein and leucine before those meals.

No, you take the shake Post-Workout. The 5g Leucine is fine before each carb meal, there after.

David BergMemberYeah I definitely worded that wrong…I know not to take anything to spike my insulin until after I have worked out…I think I have this down I just have to get the whole post workout planning figured out…but that shouldn't be a problem…just gotta find out how many carbs in a pizza cuz it's been a long time since I have had pizza.so tonight I will workout and then take hypertrophic potentiator 30 minutes after...then 30 minutes to 1 hour later start slamming the carbs with 5g leucine before each meal.

Well do you have any kind of ballpark numbers for how long without protein or something because I have been extremely hungry all day...it's now 430 and all I had to eat was 36 grams of protein and 60 grams of fat. It's just nice if someone can post a link to a study on this muscle protein breakdown. Just for peace of mind...

Kiefer always said 12-14 hours. I'd stick to that.

David BergMemberThank you ibobland08And after 12-14 hours it's ok to just have 10 grams of protein every couple hours to maintain muscle? If that's the case then I will stick with what I'm doing for most of the ulc portion of a workout day, and not worry about any meals I have later in the day closer to my workout...I just had a taco salad...probably more like 20 grams of protein there...it isn't hard this whole thing, like I said I just want to get as close to perfect and don't want to make any mistakes along the way that could be hindering my results.I will stick with 10 grams of protein or as close as I can get to 10 because in the book kiefer mentions that's kind of the sweet spot...I'm not quoting him but it was something about any more protein and it could cause too big of an insulin spike.thanks for your response manI'm just trying to do this right...I want to do this as perfect as I can.

You're overthinking this. Just eat your meals and you'll be fine.
