Eric ShawMemberIn this video Mark Bell gives some very clear advice to all CNS dieters that I think needs to be drilled through peoples heads. Don't go overboard on the carbloads. He clearly says what worked for him, and remember he is a massive guy, he only did two carbload meals, and kept it reasonable. So to the people who are 25%+ BF and pounding back 2 quarts of icecream, pizza, donuts and steak in one sitting and wondering why you are not losing weight, take notice. I think tha the #1 reason people do not succeed on CNS is eating too much fat during their loads, too many calories during the loads for their LBM, and not being strict enough with correct amounts of P:F:C during the ULC days, combined with probably not doing enough of the correct kind of resistance training, and possibly doing too much cardio in any form.Check it out: http://crossfitbattlefield.com/tag/dangerously-hardcore/

peritoMemberWow…really impressive! I like where he is says supplements are more or less the icing on the cake… not a foundation for success. Thanks for sharing

Richard SchmittModeratorYep pretty much why I keep telling a lot of members who are on Carb Nite to “instill some discipline”. Becuase I got it from Mr. Bell himself, and which is true.

Agreed.I'm all for going balls to the wall on the first carb nite, but after that you should make it more enjoyable and less "I want to puke just so I can sleep".I like a couple of carb heavy dinners, one small dessert, then one larger one to finish it off.

Been there definitely done that. Sometimes "puking" has to be done, which sucks. I honestly think sometimes a "breakfast" is a best carb dinner meal!

Brandon D ChristParticipantTo be honest, I don't think Mark Bell is the best person to use a model. He is very muscular and he also uses anabolics (at least he used to). The best way to approach a Carb Nite is to eat an inuitive amount, that is don't force feed yourself. As far as fat goes, fat is a problem on Carb Nite when it prevents you from consuming enough carbs. Fructose is also a problem. While fructose doesn't need to be watched to the same degree as on CBL, if you are eating something that is pure sugar, you aren't getting much glucose from it. Save the ice cream for dessert, do not make it your main backloading carb.I found the best way to approach Carb Nite is to have two starch based meals with a dessert.

FairyGuestThanks Ibo. Great advice. I'm so glad it's being drilled into my head over and over (no sarcasm here!). I seriously need to learn it before my next CN on Monday

jrussoMemberWhat would be considered a great starchy carb for the first meal. Could I do maybe cinnamon toast crunch cereal with fat free milk? It does have some fat in the cereal but not that much. Or is it better to do something like meat and potatoes? Would french fries be ok instead of mashed potatoes?

The cereal would be ok. Along with the other options you listed.

jrussoMemberBig Tex, thank you for the reply. Would onion rings be okay? I love onion rings.Another question, I see that many individuals do HIIT after their carb nite, but I havent been working out lately because I feel that I need a break. Is HIIT essential after a carb nite to reduce glycogen stores? Could I possibly fast for part of the day?

For a CN??!! Oh yes hit those onion rings up! Those actually sound really good too.Now about HIIT, it's not necessary but it is a tool that helps. Usually going 6.5 days without any carbs will deplete glycogen stores but others do it to help accelerate that process.
