weight listnerKeymasterI've just started taking a multi vitamin (Berocca Performance-effervescent tablets) I'm in the prep phase for CBL thinking this should do me good, it says it contains no sugar, caffine or artififial stimulants in bold type, but the fine print reads thus: (Contains aspartame. Phenylketonurics are warned that this product contains phenylalanine. Each tablet contains 288mg of sodium. Contains tableting aids, artificial sweetner and natural flavoring.)So I googled "aspartame" and it apears to be somewhat deadly, not sure if it contains another artifical sweetner or not and I don't know what tableting aids or phenylalanine is but it looks bad. Will these sweetners have messed up my prep phase? I've only had 2 so far.

Throw away the multivitamin, but not because it messed up your prep phase. It didn't.Multis by and large tend to have far less of what you really need in effective quantity, and much more of what the manufacturer can get cheaply. As long as they can include them all on the label they don't give a shit. Most consumers ignore the amounts of the important vitamins in favor of the convenience of taking only one pill. The best thing you can do to make sure you're taking the right stuff (and the right amounts of it) is to check out this article. Don't waste time and money.P.S. I have no affiliation with the site I recommended. The seven supplements I take daily are recommended on that link, although in some cases I chose different brands than he mentions.Good luck!

RoadblockParticipantDoes it bother anyone but me that most pills are made offshore? Usually in 3rd world type places? We are putting this stuff in our bodies for god sakes!!RB

A solid company that makes their supplements in the US is Life Extension. I use their vitamins D3, K2 & selenium. You can get good prices on Amazon for most of their stuff. Hey...they even have multivitamins ;-).

Brandon D ChristParticipantI would use it. I do not buy the aspartame argument. A lot of things in an extremely high dosage is gonna give someone cancer. As far as the absorption of multi's, I tend to agree they don't do much, but there could be some benefit of taking a multi if you don't eat a lot of veggies.

ChuckMemberThese Vitamins are pretty good and are backed by tons of research. However a little bit pricey.http://www.swansonvitamins.com/garden-of-life-vitamin-code-raw-one-men-75-veg-caps

FairyGuestI only use naturally sourced vitamins. Most drug store vitamins are sourced from whatever is the cheapest source, be that tar or manufactured chemicals – not real food products.

Cory McCarthyMemberMegafoods is a GREAT brand for vitamins, for instance. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.You need to go the natural, whole food sourced route. No lab-created shit. I'd even suggest buying gender-specific... like Megafoods One-A-Day For Men.Whole food sourced vitamins don't even require a meal to absorb!Cory

FairyGuestIt's still best to take multis with food. Vitamins A,D,E & K plus most minerals are best absorbed with a fatty meal

bioengineerGuestthe problem with multi's is they also don't optimize the delivery method. Magnesium in the form of a cheap salt has poor absorption opposed to chelates versions. Fat soluble vitamins like D don't absorb well in a powder-compressed tab….my advice is you pick a few key ones and buy the highest quality possible. For fish oil, magnesium, and vitamin D I really shell out the cash and make sure they are properly manufactured and in the right delivery form.

weight listnerGuestHow about wild fish/trout, sunshine, liver, nuts, vegitables, wild game meat deer hare & pork , cottage cheese, milk, free range eggs, sardines, butter, coconut cream, chocolate cake in custard with icecreem, and some vatamin c pills? would I be missing much with that?

If you really are eating all those foods, you should be fine.

GroogruxGuestSomething that has recently come to light for me has been the absorption percentage of multi's.I'm taking GNC Mega Men's Sport right now (have been for a few years), and I can only tell a difference when I haven't taken it in over a week.I did find one though, at a local vitamin shop that is in powder form. It has all the same vitamins and nutrients as my GNC, but it has no carbs, no sugars, and it's cheaper. I think I'll be switching to it soon. http://nuteknutrition.com/nutek/products/vitamins/natures-fuel
