magnusvisvirKeymasterHey guys. Trying to introduce myself sufficiently seems daunting so I'll just let you know how I arrived here. My athletic experience in high school was football, basketball, and track and field. I was a pretty good athlete but really a fat ass in high school. I got up to 280 by the end of my junior year. Finally, discovered that being fat wasn't part of who I was and lost 50# over the summer between junior and senior year eating Atkins. Then after high school I got into powerlifting and got my NSCS-CPT. I set some state records in KY. I got married in college and had to work my ass off to pay the bills. Really stopped working out because of work and school (college and grad school). I never got FAT again but got weaker and chubbier. Up until this past year, fitness was not something I was capable of pursuing. This January I got back into it by starting a weight loss challenge with my brother. I kicked his butt. Got into CrossFit and got certified. I did CrossFit for 10 months and realized I was constantly bombarding my CNS. I had no sex drive from April to October and my wife was outdoing me on the sexual end which had never happened before. I was constantly pissed and agitated. I was overtrained. During this time I was constantly depleting my glycogen. I did paleo, whole30, etc. As soon as I'd start feeling better, I'd work out and feel like shit again. So, I read the Primal Blueprint and realized I was simply killing myself with my wods. I decided to focus on resistance training combined with sprints and found Wendler's 531. Around the same time my high school friend, Eric Banks, started to promote CBL. I thought CBL sounded like a joke, but I realized my results were a joke. So, I splurged and bought the book CBL. Read it in a day and felt very positive about what was presented. I've decided to give it a shot. I'm just now on day 2 of prep and am probably looking at a short prep due to my glycogen situation. I'm doing 531 4 days a week. I already feel much MUCH better and I'm waking up with boners again! Seriously, its been a long year and I'm encouraged by what I've found here. Now I don't plan on stopping CrossFit altogether, but I realize there's a tendancy to metcon people to death in CrossFit. When I return to CF I plan on following the main site. But I have some strength goals I want to reach before going back to CF. I want a 1xBW Press, 1.5xBW Bench, 2x squat, 2.5xDL, and 1.5xclean. I'm currently at 205# and approximately 20%bf. Thanks in advance for all your help.
