Hi all, I am here trying to learn more about this. I actually stumbled upon roughly the CBL idea on my own (I would hold carbs back until after I lifted) about a month ago and saw some changes. Did some research more into this and found CBL and more insight into the theory behind it. I am basically here because I am a muslim and ramadan is coming up in  about a month's time. I will need to do some research into IF and how it relates (it is mentioned in the book but it said that it was beyond the scope of the ebook). The basics of where I'm at: 6'0, 240 lbs. Somewhere around 25% bodyfat (you know, the guy in the gym who is plenty big/strong but not "cut up". I run 531. I really push myself on the last working set, so intensity shouldn't be an issue. Although during ramadan, due to religious restrictions and timing: I will be basically doing the sets, one rest-pause/DC set using the percentage of the first working set of the day, then out of the gym to focus on other things. The fast will roughly last from 4am to 830pm.I am thinking that I should do my training around 730-745 (lasting no more than 30 mins), and CBL after that until around 1030 or so.The early AM confuses me (perhaps because I am not completely familiar with the theory behind this and even though I have read the ebook I am still thinking of this in terms of "that cool little trick I stumbled upon").  Should I be doing the accelerator shake at like 230 then at 4am (decaf coffee of course)? Or do I not quite grasp whats going on yet?

intermittent fasting is one of those delicate topics and i'm not sure of what the rules are for the month you will be engaged in Ramadan (what you can and can't have entirely). My general advice to you is that if you are going to fast, i would go light in the gym during Ramadan. There is no point is going super heavy if you cannot provide adequate calories needed to rebuild/support muscle growth (assuming that's your goal).  Personally, you may want to switch to Shockwave Protocol so you don't overtrain - then go back to 5/3/1 when you can provide sufficient caloric load -  just my 2 cents.check out the articles Kiefer wrote up about I.F.

If you're letting Islam affect how and what you eat, you need to read a fucking Dawkins or Hitchens book…

With all due respect, I don't recall the question having anything to do with who or what he should or should not believe in or worship. Unless you have some sort of solution or positive input on his nutrition/training question, please keep disrespectful inflammatory comments like this to yourself. Thanks.

Calm yourself, Defiance, or you'll be suspended from posting. There is absolutely no reason to make that comment. People come here for advice and support, not political discussion (in this forum).

As far as I know, having several muslim friends you're not even allowed to drink water during the day. I think that may be a problem for training. You will probably be pretty much dehydrated during the day and I think training this way may be pretty rough.PS: just don't try to discuss spirituality since the outcome is never positive.

I think it'll be hard for you to do CBL given the restrictions you're under during the day light hours. What might be worth trying is the "jack shit" template for 5/3/1 and just loading up on carbs 1-2 times a week at night depending on how you're feeling. So, more of a Carb Nite type of set up.Best of luck with everything and welcome to the forums!

In past years, this hasn't been an issue. I just load up on gallons of water at night (especially right before the start of the fast). I also work a desk job, so its not like its real tough on me.

The more I think about it, this might be the way to go. I can get my reps in, and get out. So far as strength, I am not looking to grow, just to maintain during this month (I doubt I will even go into the gym during the deload week to be frank). What I am worried about is having to redo the prep phase. It wasn't pretty when I went through it for this round; the "keto flu" slammed me like a ton of bricks to the dome.If my thinking is correct, I should backload as I feel per week; once or twice which I am assuming will be deadlift and possibly squat day and keep it lower carb during the rest of the week?

If you aren't going to eat or drink at all, i wouldn't even train….  that way you can lessen the catabolism.

Honestly I would tailor your bulking/cutting diet around this time, say bulk up CBL DB, until it gets close then, low carb CN with acceptable foods. Intermittent fasting is beneficial under certain circumstances, but you would like to break the fast before muscle degradation; using fats or even creatine to fight myostatin (muscle
