SpatzModeratorHmm, I've been starting out my morning with the nicotine, have it for about 15 minutes to 30 before drinking my coffee, and when I finish my coffee I'll throw out my gum as well. Perhaps I'll finish my gum before starting my coffee tomorrow and see how that works for me.
I bet this is why you get nauseous too. Your getting the nicotine in your stomach not into your blood.
Oh!! That'd be great if that were the reason!! I'm excited to try it this way tomorrow and see how the nausea goes. I just figured I'll send it straight to the problem area.. the stomach right?.. 😉 kidding. Great advice, I didn't think about that.

Scope75GuestIf your still wanting your coffee drink it first then have your gum 3-4hrs later when the fats from the coffee have cleared your system.

SpatzModeratorIf my last meal the night before was at 10ish, I drink my fats/coffee around 8ish, 3/4 hours later would be noonish, Then wait another two hours for the nicotine to clear my system before eating, that would make it a 14/15 hour fast. I thought we weren't suppose to go over 14 hours? Or does the fat intake in the morning offset that?

That's pretty much bulletproof fasting and the fats do break the fast, but its different. I don't have the NR book so I'm just posting what's in my head and how I'd do it. I personally don't have a problem with long fasts and both the BP coffee and nicotine get mtor going.

SpatzModeratorI'll give it a shot! I don't have the problem with feeling hungry before 2 anyways.

RonokMemberPersonally, I just have my last meal at 10PM, wake up at 8AM, pop the gum in first thing and then chill with it until 10 or 11 to break the fast with coffee and fats.

samuel r walkerParticipantI chew mine for 45 mins upon waking then have my c oil right after.. I dont recall him ever specifing macro nutrient timing around nicotine tho, besides carbs

I just looked again. Kiefer on page 42 says keep nicotine away from carbs. He mentions nothing about protein or fats and nicotine being an issue. He reiterates the same thing again while on CNS on page 45-46.

15 mins is fine you don't needthe caffeine to totally leave your system. Just need to give it time to be absorbed into the bloodstream through your mouth.

Tracy JarchowParticipantI think the thought is to have the effects of coffee and nicotine happen simultaneously in your body. That doesn't mean they both should be ingested at the exactly the same time for that to happen. Both have somewhat different absorption rates because they are absorbed by different methods. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I've understood peak caffeine or cholinomimetics levels occur ~60 minutes after ingestion and peak nicotine levels occur ~30 minutes after ingestion. Kiefer page 42I suspect part of the difference is caffeine is absorbed mostly through the stomach and the nicotine is absorbed through the mucous membranes in the mouth. Therefore, I drink my coffee first, wait a few minutes for it to leave my mouth and then chew my nicotine gum. The key to the nicotine gum is to chew it then park it in your gum and cheek as any that is swallowed is inactivated.Instructions for nicotine gum:1. One piece of gum should be chewed until the taste becomes strong. 2. The chewing gum should be rested between the gum and cheek. 3. When the taste fades, chewing should commence again. 4. The chewing routine should be repeated for 30 minutes.

Richard SchmittModeratorThat's a good way to go about it, I believe as well.

That makes a lot of sense! I'll try it that way on Thursday, along with spitting out the liquid instead of ingesting. Thanks so much for the in-depth explanation, that was great!

samuel r walkerParticipantIf i recall correctly, the effects last 2 hrs or so.. So if u were to chew the gum, nicotine would peak in your blood at around 30-45 mins and remain elevated for said amount of time.. So as long as your drinking your coffee after chewing the gum u should be fine.. though having caffeine before and after may be more beneficial
