mvm648KeymasterHas anyone had issues with an increase of heartrate and agitation at night? This is the second night in a row that I had eaten dinner. Low carb as appropriate. Beat tired up till now and all of a sudden I'm wired with an elevated heart rate. I got literally one hour of sleep last night when this happened. Any ideas?? I just finished day 3 of CNS “orientation”.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorYou got one hour of sleep last night? Is this a common thing? If it's fairly common thing for your sleep to be like that then I'd say it's likely some cortisol disregulation.

What is your fat intake like? How much fat and what time did you eat dinner? Was that your last meal of the day?RB

mvm648Guestno, thats the problem. last night was my second night off from work and tonight is obviously my third. I usually sleep pretty well by now because my system has recovered from night work. This seems to be coming from somewhere. I'm tired but a few hours after the last meal my system speeds up and keeps me awake. Like I'm hyper for no reason. Never happened before except a reaction to MSG years ago. Haven't touched it since.

mvm648GuestLast night I overdid the fat. Had 8oz shrimp with 5 oz cheese and an avocado. Tonight I kept it under control. Chicken breast with 1oz cheese and 1 cup spinach with 8 olives. Splash olive oil and vinegar. Can fat intake really cause this????? I thought I was supposed to be increasing fat to keep up with protein and lack of carbs.

Sometimes I get burst of energy from big meals providing they have plenty of fat and protein so it could simply be that.

mvm648Guestwow. OK. Not sure what to do then. I can make the meals themselves smaller. Its not like I felt full. But if this is gonna keep happening then its a deal breaker. I can't not sleep. I worked out today. Some Strongman stuff. I was already beat from lack of carbs and an hours sleep. I can't repeat that. Especially with my work, I gotta be awake and aware all the time. Crap.

Id give it a few days and see how things go. You might do better with a controlled CBL diets having carbs more frequently.

RoadblockParticipantRemember that when going ULC your body is using fat for energy. Too often people going low carb avoid fat and this causes your body to not release fat stores and hampers your progress so the recommendation to eat fat closer to bed is really just saying don't go no fat. The idea being that you shouldn't go to bed with zero fat in your system. Just don't overdo the fat within 4 or 5 hours before sleep.RB

vandelay87MemberThis historically has always happened to me anytime I've started ULC / paleo, etc. It's not a fun few days and sleep is really poor. Plus I can relate to the agitation etc. I've always just chalked it up to my system being thrown for a loop and trying to adjust to the new type of nutrition/ fat adapted, etc. for me it goes away after a few days and then I feel great and sleep really good. try a melatonin / zinc / magnesium stack before bed.Sent from my SGH-T769 using Tapatalk 2
