davisNSMemberJust starting up CN for first time, have followed somewhat similar protocols in before decided to follow CN. Just finished my re-orientation phase this past week and had my first Carb Nite on Saturday, following (what was an easy leg training session for me) gym workout. I know that I've seen a fair amount on here that it can be a “trial and error” to find out how many carbs any given individual may need, but just looking for any thoughts/comments from you guys that have been at this longer than I have.Just little info, I'm 6'2" and weighed in at 248 lbs at the start of reorientation at somewhere between ~20-25% BF. I train what would be considered hard at the gym 5-6x week (prior to starting CN, may have to adjust things as I move along with CN), and that being said I do carry quite a bit of muscle to go along with the fat I'm trying to shed.Okay, just those basics to try and put # carbs into perspective...so here's how the CN went:4 pm - Immediately post workout leaving the gym had 20 g whey (0 carbs in type protein I have unfortunately), but this should of provided at least moderate insulin spike445 pm - 1 1/2 fillets of haddock baked in coconut oil with 3 medium sized red potatoes (~100 g carbs)630 pm - steak and 2 cups penne pasta with melted butter and 1/2 cup cottage cheese (~130 g cabs)845 pm - 2 whole eggs, 1/2 cup jasmine rice (~75 g carbs)1015 pm - lactose free ice cream (~90 g carbs)So in total had around 395 g carbs +/- a few...The following day weighed in at the same 242 lbs that I was the previous morning before having that CN. As it was my very first CN and not seeing a "rebound" in weight that seems to happen almost across all cases I've seen on the forums just wonderinga) what are any thoughts/comments have on the layout of that Carb Niteb) I'm assuming that since I am a bigger guy that I need to jack the amount of carbs way higher than that and if anyone who's been at this for awhile or is of a similar build as I am has any input on the amount of carbs I should be shooting for that'd be much appreciated. One final question from the beginner...the following day after my CN couldn't avoid having a small amount of carbs (couple pieces whole wheat toast and few homefries) while out to brunch before getting round of 18 in...I'm not entirely sure if this means I need to go back and go through entire reorientation phase again or just need to push back my next carb nite one more day. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can shell out.

RhabdoliberMemberI've had this happen before. For me it usually depends how much I have eaten throughout the day prior to CN, and also how hard I went. What I think really makes the difference though is how hard you hit the carbs. Yours (like mine as of late) appears a bit cleaner than most, and the amount of carbs you are ingesting is not that much. It also depends how many you eat of course. I have had some carb nites where I was full to the point that I just wanted to lay on the couch and rethink every bad choice I've made in my life in which the next day the scale was up AT LEAST 5 lbs. Then there are the carb nites I keep pretty clean and eat until I am a little fuller than usual during ULC and I call it good there. Next day I'm usually at most .5 kg heavier. As for restarting reorientation, I wouldn't worry about it, if you want to push your CN back a day that's fine, I personally enjoy mine every friday so my routine is pretty set. Not sure whether you do the same

TCBParticipantSo…1) That's not very many carbs for a big guy like yourself. Especially if you carry muscle like you say. More muscle = more glycogen storage capacity. 2) Take some leucine with each meal, especially if you're going to do things like pasta which aren't very good for spiking insulin (unless they're way overcooked and mushy noodles)3) You're upset because you didn't gain weight........ ......... 😮 .... 😉4) I wouldn't redo the prep. Just keep carbs as close to 0 as you can the rest of the week.Bonus) Drop an overripe banana or some dextrose/waxy maize powder into your PWO.. and leucine 🙂

Hahaha yeah I didn't mean for this to come off I'm pissed I didn't put some weight back on, guess I was more or less using that as a coarse measure of whether I was getting the amount of carbs I should be or not. Did you have any though on ballpark number I should be shooting for?? I'm thinking about trying to least double that up to 800 g this coming CN just to see what that brings, but any sort of better educated guess would be helpful. The pasta yeah going to be a one time thing I think, had also thought white pasta was killer for spiking it, but was actually listening to a podcast Kiefer was on and actually ripping into pasta a bit as I was eating it LOL so ditching that from now on. Definitely be picking up some bananas this week, been while since had some fruit...thanks for reminder, was a busy week forgot to pick some up early so get some brown spots going. And thanks for clearly up the reorientation, I figured didn't have to and that was just a one of thing to get body primed to this whole situation.Cheers

TCBParticipantAt 20-25% you probably don't really need to count. Just eat… That being said, you could try 600 and see how you feel.

CBachelor17MemberYou could also try cutting it shorter. Minimum of 6 hour spike, so if I'm not mistaken ending it after 5 hours will still result in at least a 6 hour spike being that your taking in 90grams of carbs after 6 hours you could be going a little over the “no gain” range

davisNSMemberAlright thanks for advice, I'll give a shorter more concentrated CN this next time around see how she goes

Have any recommendations of brand of leucine you're using

CBachelor17Memberhttp://www.amazon.com/L-Leucine-227-Grams-2lb-Unflavored/dp/B00273BFSO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1377721142&sr=8-2&keywords=leucinethis is what I use, cheap, pure, and tasteless. Just mix it with what ever protein/ shake your drinking. On my CN i mix it with gatorade zero with my meals.

TCBParticipantI use the instantized stuff from truenutrition.http://www.truenutrition.com/p-1051-l-leucine-powder-instantized-100-grams.aspx500g is ~$25+shipping (which can suck from TN unless you're getting a lot of stuff at once)
