Lcordell2009KeymasterHey guys I'm pretty new to cbl, I just started this past week. In the past I have had to avoid whey protein sources because they typically cause me problems with acne. Any suggestions as to what kinds or sources of protein I could substitute for whey. This is just for my pwo shake as I typically try to get all my protein from whole foods.

rstlneMemberYou can browse through TrueNutrition.com for their paleo option protein powder. They also have vegan protein powder, not as protein dense as whey but it is non-dairy and it may work with suppressing your acne.

KenSanderParticipantI believe the gemma pea is a good source and Keifer likes it. Avoid the soy based stuff as that's shit.

GnomerParticipanti may be having the same issue.. i have suffered from nodular acne for the past 15 years and after doing pretty much every treatment known to man even accutane(which worked but didn't want to risk staying on forever) one thing i never tried was cutting out dairy… I read a lot of information saying cystic and nodular can be caused by dairy in many people… i have just recently stopped dairy(about a week) and my two larger nodules are clearing up. If they go away and i don't breakout after a month of no dairy ill probably start living dairy free(maybe just butter, hopefully that doesn't effect my acne)Protein is my biggest issue with cutting dairy. It has been my staple protein supplement forever. I switched to just eggs and meat for the bulk of my protein. I got a few pea based samples to try and see if I can stomach those. Really is a huge bummer if it turns out dairy is what has caused my acne for all these years and not a single dermatologist(saw over 5 of them in my life) suggested cutting dairy ever. But honestly i'd rather live without dairy then be in my 30s and still live day to day with nodular acne.

tzanghiParticipantThe next best after dairy options is egg protein. Vegetable options are poor choices, but should be supplemented with 2 to 3 grams of leucine when taken.

OutdoormotoMemberThis is good stuff for me to read. I found out after switching to paleo this past spring that I have a problem with dairy proteins, which ultimately cause me joint pain. I'll be switching from CNS to CBL SA soon so i guess i'll be trying egg protein for the shakes

CBachelor17MemberI would go with Soy or Egg Protein. Soy is probably the best choice if you absolutely must avoid dairy. A lot of quality Whey Isolates have Digestive Enzymes to help out. The higher the quality the Whey the less people with Lactose issues respond negatively. Whey Hydrolysates for example I have seen people that generally cant take Whey do fine with. It does cost a little more though.

i'd stick with rice protein over either egg or soy if going powder.. Also like shown above and you can search many other studies for exercise purposes rice works just as well as whey... but i hardly use protein powder anymore..

+1Soy, in just about any form, is probably one of the worst (and/or least beneficial) things you can consume. Especially in large quantities. I haven't looked into it really, but there is the option of beef protein powder, also.. Which, I think, is just dried, pulverized meat..
