newilliams8ParticipantOk, so I already shared a lot of this with phxplay88 (love her!), but I decided I'd share it with the rest of you, so y'all can see a bit of who I am and where I am/came from when it comes to dieting/training 🙂I'm been doing CNS for a couple weeks now, but decided yesterday to kinda restart for the next 7 days and get the actual diet part laid out, so basically: chicken, beef, hard cheeses, bacon, eggs and some fish (not a huge fan of fish, but I'm trying). So, anyway, CBL and CN (along with every other diet/exercise program) work so much better for guys than girls because, let's face it, women's bodies are kinda retarded when it comes to letting go of fat, where as men's excel at it (gotta hate it and love it at the same time). But anyways, obviously anyone can post and give me advice about their experiences on CBL and CN, since any and all given will be mucho appriciated, but I'd really like to hear from the ladies and their results and progress like Phxplay's fantastic ongoings 🙂 But first, some background info - ahem:I am 23 years old (about to turn 24 in July actually), I'm 5'7" and am well proportioned with an athletic body type. I've always been kinda chunky, but it got worse in Junior High and High School from stress and a horrible diet (obviously lol). I have been dieting/exercising trying to lose this ridiculously stubborn body fat for... holy crap it's been like 8 years... that's sad... but anyways, I've lost weight and gained it back, then lost it again and gained muscle and a bit of fat, so it's been a vicious cycle of what phxplay said "diet, binge, rinse, repeat" for the last 8 years. Again, it's pretty sad... And like the vicious cycle suggests, I know my main problem, like many others I suppose, is consistency, since I know we've all had that horrible mental beatdown with ourselves, internally (and sometimes externally) yelling "I'd be awesomely thin and toned and sexy right now if I had just stuck with (insert whatever diet/exercise program we were on a few months before)!"... So anyway, I did well the first few years going into college losing weight/fat and about my junior year gained some of it back, and again more back and forth losing/gaining, but I noticed instead of putting the fat back on, I put on muscle, since I started at a size 17 at 172lbs junior year of high school and ended college at a size 11 at about 165lbs, which is great of course (yay me!!), but again since I didn't stick with it, I still had that layer of fat over all the muscles, and so naturally that's where I am now. Now I weigh about 160 and have good muscle tone that you can kinda see and feel when I flex, but there's still that damn layer of stupid fat all over my awesome muscles!! So... getting to the original point I wanted to make, and hopefully along the way haven't put you to sleep, I found the Carb Nite Solution, which I'm pretty positive was a gift from God (Thank you LORD!!!). It's the only thing that has made the most sense for actually losing body fat (which now that I think back to some of the other stuff I've done trying to lose weight, I feel very idiotic...), and other than my one Whole30, it's the only thing I've actually stuck with!! Whoo! And I guess I finally have the motivation now to continue with it to finally rid myself of the ever frustrating mentally abusive cycle of: "If I had only stuck with it.." followed by the "this time will be different and I'll finally do it!!"... I at least hope you know what I'm talking about... it's pretty hard on the psyche :/ Anyways! I decided to join after seeing/being uplifted by phxplay's posts and progress pics, because I feel like we have the same body type and goals, AND she weren't just another woman who was already ripped or only weighed 130 but "just wanted to be more lean"... I mean come on! I'm really happy for them and all, but they don't really help me any since I can't see where they started, and it seems like they were never overweight like me, so they probably don't really understand... But again, I digress. Also! I just got the Shockwave app and am going to use it for the first time tonight (woot!!), and it's even better than I imagined since I just moved into my cool new Dallas apartment (yay!) but don't have the money for a gym membership right now (boo...), so all I have is my apt's gym which has a good range of dumb-bells (hooray!), a couple treadmills (ok), ellipticals (extreme hate!!) and an total-body cable machine (interesting...). I was doing HIIT sprints on the treadmill every now and then to add to my workouts, but I kinda hate all forms of cardio and was thinking to cut it out altogether while on CNS - thoughts? And this might sound extreme, but for someone like me who's main life goal (well at least top 3) for the past 8 years has been to FINALLY get lean and fit, it's very important... is the entire list of food in the CNS book really ok to eat? I mean, not going against his all-powerful knowledge on the subject since he wrote the book, but I just want to get the most out of this while I do it, you know? Especially since I always feel like I fail after the first couple weeks because I'm not sure if I'm eating right and then get discouraged and then sidetracked and then all of a sudden it's been 3 months since my last bout of exercise or good eating...wow that sounds pathetic... And I've also learned that exercise is awesome, but diet is pretty much 80% of your success. And since other people talk about just eating meats and cheeses and coconut oil, and really nothing else in the food lists, I thought I'd give a shout out for some advice.OH! And as for the binge sensation that is carb nite, I see some people that just eat whatever the hell they want, and then others that eat a little more cleanly, like potatoes and rice/veggies instead of pizza/cake/etc. Does it really matter? And I really hope this isn't too overwhelming, I'm just so... fed up with being in the state of constantly having this layer of fat and feeling my muscle underneath and knowing I can get to it and show it to the world if I could only... you know? I'm tired of being a bit chunky, and seeing my friends and other people super thin, naturally by the way, since they just seem to have super-human metabolisms! Jerks. And because mine seems to be the ever-so-cute sloth of the bunch. And even though my family and friends and even some guys say, you're beautiful and curvy, don't worry about losing weight so much, blah blah blah... honestly, even if it's true to them, I'm still not happy with my body and I feel like that's the most important thing, you know?... Anyway, right now (again) I weigh about 160, got down to 153-ish my first 10 day introduction to CNS and then gained the 7 lbs back after my first CN (lovely...) but I wasn't too worried since I read the book and it's not uncommon, but then the weight wasn't coming off like I guess it was supposed to, then yesterday- BAM!! My wonderful red river of fertility hit (sorry guys), which made me realize why the weight wasn't going away and why it was suddenly really, really hard to wait til my next CN for my delicious sweet treats. So, again after a way too long paragraph of probably way too much info, I'm going to end this craziness and hopefully anyone reading this will reply (or at least say hi) and not just be appalled into a get-away-from-this-crazy-girl coma. Thanks for any advice you decide to give, and for just reading this novel in general lol somehow whenever I do something like this, it turns out a lot longer than originally intended/expected... but I like to write so of course it always happens (I should know this by now). And it's now after reading that statement that you're like "Ahh that explainas a lot" lol And maybe I'm just a bit crazy (very possible). So anyways, thanks for reading and I can't wait to share my progress pics in a couple months! Wee!! 😀

Richard SchmittModeratorWell hey there! Really glad you found CNS and plan to achieve your goal. It was a long post 😉 but we all need to vent and give enough information to help, so no worries. Have you considered in starting a log? The way you view Phx as a Role Model, which I think is great for she is an amazing women to idealize, her meal plans are real simple. I mean the whole KISS method, Keep It Stupid Simple. She does beef, eggs, bacon daily...then yes as you have seen in most folks logs eat what they want on their CN. There is a method to the madness though. Starting off low in fat at the beginning of a CN then finishing it out with fattier carbs is ideal. There are podcasts like number 20 or 21 that you might find interesting. Also articles on the Athlete.io site you should read up on. Fat to protein ratios in terms of grams will probably help you in the long run on what to eat and how much. Like .5-.75g/target BW and getting in 1g/target BW. The meals in the book are okay however, sticking to the basics of beef, chicken, eggs, bacon, butter and coconut oil will benefit you in the long run. Then you can start slowly add in other foods like cheese and such. If you do want cheese stick to the hard stuff. Since you have some equipment at your place doing a SW type setup would be great. Consider doing each body part like a bodybuilder type split OR one I would consider is a push/pull. Start off low then work up to it. Say Push-Pull-Push then next week do Pull-Push-Pull, at least till you can handle more and understand your need nutrition intake. Again I consider you start a log to get more advice, motivational tips, and for sure encouragement.Pretty cool you're in Dallas, I'm actually in Ft Worth

newilliams8ParticipantYeah but I'm not quite sure how, I'm still learning the site lol and as soon as I do I'll post my current body stats/pics so later my progress will be AMAZING!! And yay Ft. Worth! My friend and I like going to the stockyards every now and then lol but anyways… Yeah the diet portion of everything is why I decided to start over with a 7 day reorientation since I've kept everything ULC, I just wanted to be more strict in what I eat, so today I'm starting off with a KISS diet and just eating chicken, eggs, bacon and beef 🙂 And I might add in some hard cheeses every now and then for a bit more fat, but for the most part I'm going to try to stick to more protein since I think I was getting more fat than protein and i want it the other way around, so yeah, so far so good! (thought it's only day one lol)So I'm going for about 70g fat and 140g protein a day at least, unless that's too low? And what's a "split" workout, I've heard that before but have no idea what it means. And do you mean the included push and pull workouts on the shockwave app? Thanks!! 🙂

Richard SchmittModeratorStockyards are fun times!I would up the fats a bit to at least 85g if not higher and the protein a tad bit. The push/pull can be incorporated by selecting that certain function. Did you buy all the packs?

newilliams8ParticipantOk, that's what I thought. And no, not yet, but I probably will soon since its not that expensive and I want all the workouts.

Richard SchmittModeratorIf you need assistance with on “How-to's” feel free to ask. The app can be interesting to work with at first but you can download the PDF file at shockwaveprotocol.com I believe
