Overtraining?

    I just wanted to see if I'm overtraining. As soon as I saw the slightest results in fat loss I got stoked and my motivation for working out increased ten fold. However I know that overtraining is possible so I may be doing too much, what do you guys think?M: 9 am (Shoulders, Bis); 5 pm (Basketball)Tu: 9 am (Legs); 5 pm (Basketball)W: 9am (Chest, Tris); 5 pm (Basketball)Th: 9 am (Legs, Back); 5 pm (Basketball)F: 9 am (Abs); 5 pm (Basketball)Sa: 9 am (HIIT: Springs)Su: RestAs you can tell, I love playing basketball. I feel like I get a great workout in because I always go balls to the wall and I am a very competitive person and always feel the need to get my "fix" for competition.

    Over training is more a neural thing and everyone is different. If you feel like hammered dog shit back off, if you feel fine you are good. Just eating enough to support the activity.

    Overtraining is really just insufficient recovery due to poor nutrition, sleep and to a lesser extent retarded programming though even that can be overcome with enough rest and food.If you feel good, don't worry about it. Work capacity and recovery can be increased. You should see the number of people who told me I would suddenly explode training as much as I do, yet every time I reduce training volume I come back and feel sore/tired/unmotivated to train after a heavy session.In fact your training kinda looks similar to mine, cept I box at 5 PM instead of playing basketball. Doing a physical activity you enjoy is great for conditioning and usually aids in recovery unless you bite off more than you can chew, of course. As usual, listen to your body.

    No you will not be overtraining. I think overtraining is bullshit. Unless you are literally training for hours upon hours on end you will not be overtraining. I started training forearms and calves every time I workout and I was told I would overtrain them quickly, they are growing like never before now. Overtraining is an excuse for lazy people and people who are afraid to think outside the box when it comes to training. I do believe you can mentally burn out but overtraining is more man made b.s. from people who would rather take it easy than kick ass.

Overtraining is an excuse for lazy people and people who are afraid to think outside the box when it comes to training. I do believe you can mentally burn out but overtraining is more man made b.s. from people who would rather take it easy than kick ass.

    While I mostly agree with this, it's not 100% true.If you max out daily on deadlift you will overtrain your nervous system, but it's a nervous system thing not a muscular thing. CNS burn out is just another word for it, so this is more of a pet peeve on my part then anything else.

    True true.I'm training 7 days a week right now, and auto-regulate my workouts.

    True true.I'm training 7 days a week right now, and auto-regulate my workouts.

    Depending on my work schedule I have had to do 3-4 days in a row with all 4 main lifts. I normally don't like doing heavy deads and squats within 72 hours or so but I had to do them 48 hours apart and ended up heavy deadlifting the same week. I looked at it more of a challenge then anything.

    It really depends how much of a noob you are. When I was a deadlift virgin, I trained it every other day for weeks doing basically as many singles as I could with a given weight in 30 minutes. I went from 315 to 405 and while that is hardly impressive I was 142 pounds and boxing at the same time, glad I did not curb my enthusiasm by listening to the fucking internet as it would have taken me a lot more time to reach that point. Only then I could walk into the gym not feeling like a complete wuss, though now that I have reached 500 I know going much over that is gonna take a lot of patience and controlled aggression as I can feel my brain revolting every time I go over 90% of that, even just once.

    A little overtraining rant….It drives me nuts when I hear people being so concerned with overtraining. If you are more worried about overtraining than working out then you probably shouldn't be working out and odds are those people aren't working out even close enough to "overtrain"
