jlbryan38KeymasterI know that we are only supposed to weigh ourselves the day of carb nite…but I was curious! :-Anyway my first crb nite I gained 4 pounds and yesterday I gained 3. I have seen conflicting things on if your day after crb nite weight is indicative of soon something right or wrong. I do know I feel hella better this morning then the last morning after and I don't feel bloated or anything. Actually tighter! So should I just go by how I feel? And say it doesn't matter if I gaine .5 pound or 4 pound the day after carb nite?

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorGo by how you feel. You will always gain weight due to re-filling glycogen stores and possible excess water storage. If you want to weigh yourself only do it the morning of your carb nite.

Richard SchmittModeratorYeah going by feel and how your clothes fit is a better indicator than the scale. Like Trevor said, weigh yourself the morning of a CN once a week.

jereskGuestI gain anywhere between 7 and 10 lbs the day after carb nite. But it generally takes between 4 and 6 days to lose it and then I usually drop at least one “net” lb each week. Sometimes 1, sometimes 5 – but there have only been like 2 or three weeks here I was only just back to where I was before the last carb nite.I used to enjoy drinks more on carb nite (mostly fruit juice) because that was something I really missed. But after reading more about how that seems to affect people, and just seeing what it did to me I limited liquids to be the exact same as any other day - mostly water, maybe a diet coke. All of a sudden it was taking a lot less time to get back to my pre-carb nite weight! So don't worry too much... The weight doesn't really say much about anything.

This is specifically for Big Tex - or any others that are long-timers: that statement above where Dj says it takes longer to lose the post-CN weight gain - well, that's me as well. That is also why I considered extending the length between CNs from 7 days to maybe longer. I feel like my body hasn't had ample time to get rid of the excess carbs before loading up again. (My CNs are Saturdays.) I know logically this isn't right, but I sure feel like it should be. I'm wrong, right?

Richard SchmittModeratorHave you tried doing some HIIT post CN? Depleting yourself of any excess carbs will help put your body on track to losing fat. Extending the days in between each CN probably won't be as beneficial as you may think. Do you do fasted walking or any type of lifting? Establishing a good solid program with CNS can help as well.

katParticipantI lift 4 days a week (split routine) and I do some fasted walking up to 4 days a week. The day after CN is tough to get moving as I am freakin' miserable from the amount of food taken in on CN. Upon your suggestion, I cleaned up CN some and ate less true junk and more starchy carbs and I did feel better this past Sunday than the previous two Sundays, but I was still FULL! I am having so much trouble getting enough food in, not only on CNs, but on ULC days as well.Ugh...I just need to stop being afraid of gaining weight, put my big girl panties on, and jump in with both feet! 🙂

I understand. Try eating the big carb meals every two hours or so. You may feel hungry during the feast or a little afterwards but try spliting them up. Make the evening enjoyable instead of one big meal. I understand getting food in. I barely take in around 2100 calories on my ULC days. and barely hitting 3000 on my backload days. I have a feeling by not eating enough on any given day, results with be slow and vary. If anything try getting some dextrose to add to foods. Say you're craving some waffles, but don't want to gorge yourself to get a good amount in, add dextrose to up the carb intake. It won't bloat you up like whole foods will but you will feel very satisifed. This program takes some time to get use to it. Just jumping in without fear of gaining unwanted weight is normal, don't feel bad about it or alone. I've been there. It will work out and be better soon.

katParticipantThanks! I'm going to trudge on and do my best….it's just such a change from the 'old way' of eating. I appreciate your help!

katParticipantHad my 4th CN this past Saturday and recouped much, much better. I was full Saturday night, but not miserable as I had been the first 3 CNs. This time, I concentrated on quality, not quantity. *For Big Tex: I also ate more this past week than I had been. I went back and calculated my estimated calories/macros for the past couple of weeks and I was barely eating! Ridiculous! Last week, I took in way more and felt better, stronger, and happier! Thanks for your help and to all others that freely give advice! 🙂
