Tyler StephensParticipantI feel like I don't get enough potassium and my diet. I feel like the lack of fruits in my diet make it really hard to get all the necessary nutrients. My question is, is there a good electrolyte drink mix that would be good for ULC part of the day. I've been cramping a ton. Also, what are the typical vitamin deficiencies that people experience during CBL?

GonnaBeGiantMemberYou shouldn't need any fruits to get the vitamins and minerals you need. Green veggies have just as much if not even more vitamins and health benefits as fruit does. Eat more veggies!

What makes you think that? Anyways eat some potatoes in your backloads.

CCTMember1/4-1/2 tsp, Sea salt mixed in water and comsumed before and during exercise helps immensely in the formation of electrolytes, and doesnt taste half bad. I used to get really bad cramps (bad enough that i was down for a few weeks), but once i started drinking some sea salt water during exercise, and adding more to my pre workout meals, all the cramps went away. As for other vitamins, eat lots of veggies, and consider supplementing wigth some of the big vitamins that require high doses, like Vit. D

You and I have different definitions of not tasting half bad! 😮 Ha..As for supplementing with Vitamin D, it seems like more research is coming out showing that high dose supplementation of vitamin D just doesn't have the same effect as when we synthesize it ourselves. Plus, too much Vitamin D CAN (it takes a lot) cause other issues. Your best bet if you feel like Vit D is deficient is to get out in the sun for 15 min a day. If that's not an option (winter/northern or far southern locations of the world), jump in a tanning bed for 5 min a couple times a week.

Good advice. When it comes to electrolytes an abundance of one can make up for a deficiency of others. Salt does lots of good things and can help you retain more of the other electrolytes like magnesium and potassium. So I would start there. For vitamins I would probably just take a multi or a B-Complex in the mornings. But having fruit (as Im experiencing) does not jeopardize the results of CBL at all. So throw some in their if you feel like it.

CCTMemberI love including small amounts of berries during ULC, and larger amounts of berries during Backloads, and even a bannana or two every few days. No negative results from this yet

wenz73MemberMy question is, is there a good electrolyte drink mix that would be good for ULC part of the day. I've been cramping a ton.
Yes, it's called Morton Lite Salt. Half sodium chloride, half potassium chlorideFor maximum restoration of electrolytes, mix 1 teaspoon Lite Salt into a quart of water and sip away. This is comparable to a rehydration solution (except no sugar!) given to people who are badly dehydratedFor a daily supplement, I put 1/2 teaspoon Lite Salt in a quart of coffee (1 full teaspoon is a bit too much to enjoy) and drink that in the morning hours. And use Lite Salt on ULC meals as I pleaseI think this is a better way to supplement potassium than tablets. If you google around you can find some info relating to a study of ppl that took potassium. Some who took potassium tablets developed ulcers and erosion of the gut wall, while none of the ppl who drank liquid solutions of potassium had these effects. It seemed more related to the formulation of the tablet than the amount of potassium. Maybe since then they have changed the tablets to reduce this possibility, but really, why bother when you can just pick up some Lite Salt and mix it up?

Tyler StephensParticipantWhat are the best fruits to have during a backload specifically and what part the start of the end. Would it be okay if I threw in some goji berries into my diet?

Overripe bananas and mangos are fine to have in the backloads. Kiefer said that you can get away with peaches too. However, I think the best way to get fruit in is to have some strawberries and other berries when you are ULC. Just make sure you count the carbs.Really though you don't need fruit. They have nothing that you can't get from vegetables.

OurkoParticipantFor vitD a blood test reveals your level and you can adjust for a supplementation. But it seems lot of people are deficient.

Not really. I rarely eat fruit and I have no desire to. You can eat it if you want, but they aren't essential.

I read a while back that b complex are essentially pointless to supplement with, as u mostly pee it all out and what is absorbed you get in ubundance from lots if red meat.. go figure after i bought em. Anyways, ive only taken it while recovering from injuries since. What would u supplement it for?As for vit D, i take one 10,000 iu cap with my first meal.. I deff noticed an increase in mood and performance, no negative effects to speak of at that high of a dose
