AssassinParticipantDr. Nick voice: Hi everybody!I'm a powerlifter that's getting ready for a bodybuilding show in October and then switching back to powerlifting (along with CBL) as soon as I step off stage.Current best lifts:900 squat @ 267705 bench @ 280605 x 3 deadlift @ 270somethingMy last PL competition was in December where I weighed in at 267. Went 900/650/575. I'm currently 239 and dropping, but plan on hitting those numbers and beyond in the 242s once I'm much more lean.I'm currently working with Shelby Starnes for my contest prep, and will be starting CBL the next day after my show to maintain a very lean physique while getting my strength back.In the meantime, I've bought the book and am trying to learn as much as possible so I can hit the ground running and eat like a normal person after my show!-Ryan

AssassinParticipantHey welcome!
Thanks! Glad to be here.

Thanks. It's only taken me about 10 years? HahaI'll post some pics when I get really close to show before/after. I've been working with Shelby on and off since late '08. CBL seems to be a bit more 'normal' way to stay lean after my show than constant carb cycling.

Give it time, man! It took me about a decade, and I feel like I'm just getting started.-Ryan

That's hilarious - Numbers are impressive man, holy crap! Just curious, have you competed in bodybuilding on regular bodybuilding protocol before? if so what are the differences in what you were doing before?Cheers!

Thanks, BigR.Things changed a bit since I made this post. I'm not doing the BB show and have been doing CBL for over a month now. I'm back into powerlifting and will be doing a bench only meet next month. I can't and will not say anything bad about Shelby and the results he gets his clients. I just don't think it was working too well for me, and I need to be lifting heavy things.CBL is by far the best eating protocol I've ever used.In answer to your question I have never competed in bodybuilding. This was a one-time thing, but who knows if I will ever step on stage. I really didn't think I was where I should have been at 12 weeks out from the show, and have a very hectic work schedule with two jobs, bad hours, and still trying to get my own training in let alone train clients.I can post a pic of when I stopped the bodybuilding training and a month into CBL if anyone wants to see. Nothing too drastic, but my back/shoulders/arms look a lot fuller.-Ryan

Richard SchmittModeratorDefinitely would be cool to see a progress picture. It's always a great way to see the transition from a power lifter to a body builder. Especially for a competition.

AssassinParticipantLeft side: 238lbsRight side: 256lbsI've been doing density bulking. The boxers are a little lower on the right show, making my love handles look that much bigger. Either way, I can tell I'm getting leaner, I'm fuller, and liking a slow recomp than the zero carb thing Shelby had me doing.I think I'm going to take pics monthly to track progress. Weekly seems overkill as I'm not getting ready for a show, and small gains or losses in weight are trivial right now. I just want to turn into a monster.-Ryan

Haha thanks man. Honestly, I could not train legs for like 6 months and they would grow. Being half Norwegian probably helps with that as all the guys on my mom's side have tree trunk legs. I'd like to think my ancestors were badass vikings.

Yeah, fucking eh! Viking all the way. 😀Except, my ancestors were the ones who pillaged Irish villages... as my bloodline is Irish, but with those tale tell features (big, bright blonde, blue eyes, etc.). My legs grow like fucking monsters, they were big before I even began lifting.Welcome to the forums!Cory
