lemans247KeymasterDear all, Is there such a thing as to having too much protein during carb back loading? Accordingly to CBL book and my target weight my protein intake during backload is roughly 78g (note this is using the high scale). Thanks

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorYou can have up to 1.3g of protein total. Past that is mostly useless.

I think he means during the actual backloading period. I wouldnt think youd have any problems so long as your carb intake is higher than your protein. Something on the order of 2:1 would be fine. I get a majority of my protein during the backload. Sometimes as much as 200g+ but I always get 400g+ carbs to go with it. Basically at no point do you want protein to be the major source of calories in a meal whether you are eating carbs or not.

Re-reading that, I think you're right.I'd agree with this.

That includes ULC I take it? So fats would be in excess of protein for those meals during earlier part of day?

Generally, you want your calorie intake to be about 50/50 between fat and protein while ULC.You might need more fat than protein depending on how active you are, how hard you work out, ect.

At least 50/50. And ideally higher to be certain of a fat burning/protein sparing metabolism. Otherwise you are setting your enzymes up to burn protein for fuel. A true ketogenic diet is like 80% calories from fats the rest from protein and carbs.
