heychikadeeParticipantAny thoughts on this?http://www.wheywhip.com/#!products/c21kzGood? Bad? Ugly?

Richard SchmittModeratorThe sugar alcohols will give you a laxative effect and gas. Other than that it's okay during a CN.

heychikadeeParticipantYeah I don't understand why manufacturers of products like this don't just go the whole way and use stevia. We hardly have any products available in Australia that use stevia instead of sugar alcohols. Annoying.

Richard SchmittModeratorIt is cheaper and in the manufacturing companies it is “healthier” in their eyes. Just stick to the other stuff you're using or the banana ice cream I shared with you. Mix some whey and some cold milk with it and maybe some more sweetener of your choosing. Add vanilla extract to make vanilla or cocoa powder for chocolate. Same with frozen strawberries.

heychikadeeParticipantYeah thanks I'll stay away from it and just keep taking my whey with coffee and coconut milk. Or like you suggested, if it's a CN. Just another example of how simple is always better, and nothing beats homemade.

CBachelor17MemberAt least its Xylitol. Thats actually a natural “sugar alcohol” which isn't broken down by saliva, but it is in the stomach. Which is probably why they list it as sugar on the label. That being said complications with it are a lot less common than with other sugar alcohols.

heychikadeeParticipantThis looks good though, going to try it in some pancakes instead of the usual GF flour mix.http://www.bananaflour.com.au/

CBachelor17MemberInteresting stuff… Kinda pricy but interesting!

Richard SchmittModeratorIt is quite cheaper to get Bob's Red Mill GF White Rice, Potato Starch, and Tapioca Starch (and Xanthan Gum) and mixing your own blend together. Bigger batch and versatile.

CBachelor17MemberI stopped using the blends honestly. I have just been using white rice flour and found it works just as good. Although I actually did score a box of "Glutino" GF Flour the other day on clearance for like $2.00. Haven't used it yet because I still have a good amount of White Rice Flour.

heychikadeeParticipantOmigosh I tried making my own blend for the first and last time. It was an abomination. The resulting cupcakes had a consistency like nothing I've ever encountered before. I'd describe it as similar to a piece of raw potato, only with a more doughy/rubbery sort of texture. Nasty and so, so disappointing – I had even iced and decorated them.

Richard SchmittModeratorI can help with that. Glutenfreeonashoestring.com. search simple gluten free flour mixes. She gives ratios on blends that I use and works perfect.

heychikadeeParticipantI'll bookmark that for when I'm in my new place with a working oven. I made the cupcakes at a friend's house. So for now I'm stuck with just making pancakes! Unless I can microwave the baking stuff, have you ever tried that Big Tex and did it work out?
December 18, 2013 at 5:25 am #210787
Richard SchmittModeratorHaha yes I have. Made a cookie, brownies, and cakes in the microwave.

TCBParticipantI have just been using white rice flour and found it works just as good.
Ditto.. I notice no difference between using 100% white rice flour, and using a mix of white rice, potato, tapioca flours, and xanthan.
