dudsyMemberIm looking to use a protein supplement during the ULC phase to ensure i get my daily protein for non-training days. I know whey isolate is not recommended because too much can cause an insulin spike. Would something like a slow acting micellar casein/calcium caseinate be better?

ThrakierGuestCasein should be fine I guess?

impGuestIf you're eating enough ground beef/bacon, getting adequate protein is insanely easy…

Just curious, how do you plan on getting a 1:1 protein/fat ratio using a protein powder during the ULC portion of the day? Can't reheat food at work huh? that really sucks LOL; i make some pretty tasty cold sandwiches, but i can honestly say i would get sick of eating those every day!

Dunno, maybe just down the hatch with a few spoonfuls of coconut oil.

mjoeGuest10g of whey isolate is deemed acceptable as it does not over-stimulate insulin release. Having 10g of whey every 2-3 hours should up your intake around 50g. Kiefer also states that if taken before a meal it will decrease the insulin released in the meal, so there’s another benefit.Nuts are also a nice and easy option for upping your protein with whole foods when you have restricted options at meal times and you'll get a nice bit of fat. I also have omega 3 with my nuts to balance the omega 3 omega 6 ratio, but dont know if this is necessary. What I’m wondering is if 10grams of whey concentrate would be any better during the first few hours of the day, away from any feeding (other than MCT)? Mainly because of the price difference, but would it also not digest slower and give a even lower insulin response? If anyone is able to provide some helpful info on this issue, that would be great.

Regardless, wouldn't any amount of whey break a fast?

tzanghiParticipantNot to hijack this thread, but where do you guys get Leucine? I checked protein factory but couldn't find any on there anymore.

Best leucine and protein in my opinion truenutrition.com. it is similar to protein factory, in that you can custom mix and buy in bulk. I buy the bulk leucine (non instantized). You can add flavor to it as well. Hope that helps
