So for the last month or so after conversations and threads regarding meal timing not being important. I moved to bigger meals, and much less frequent. then today, I ran across “protein supplementation 2.0,” by Keifer. My question is what is the general protocol while on CBL? Training and non-training days should we be ingesting protein via the shakes suggested in this article or whole foods? Or does it not matter? This article clearly states by Keifer that ingesting more than 40g Protein is pointless, and consuming said protein every few hours to keep from muscle breakdown is essential. But through carious threads on this site my understand has come to be the complete opposite.

the whole idea your can't absorb more than 30g or whatever in one meal is ridiculous imho..here's a decent article on ithttp://www.marksdailyapple.com/dear-mark-how-much-protein-can-you-absorb-and-use-from-one-meal/#axzz2faF9zqAqalso the needing protein every couple hours thing has been shown many times to simply not be true at all.. most people i see promoting this are supplement company sponsered studies

I appreciate the response. But was looking for a responce to my question.  😮Do you maintain FFA by eating large meals? Or do you consume protein every 3 hours or so? If you eat large, spaced out meals, have you gained lean mass while doing so?In addition, even if we do get to a point where the body runs out of FFA, the way our body is metabolically working should spare muscle loss by attacking fatty acids. Which makes me wonder why Keifer is essentially contradicting himself, by both supplementing with whey (and no fat) every several hours throughout the day; additionally suggesting we need protein do spare muscle, when the basics of CN and CBL suggest that adequate fat intake will allow for the same outcome.

everything i have read shows low carb diets are muscle sparing diets like you said it will use body stores to break up fat to FFAs before it would catabolize your muscles.. i see no reason why you would not be able to sustain a supply of FFA only eating one or two large meals a day and this has been proven in many studies following fasting diets or IF type diets..  why kiefer said that I have no clue.. probably to many friends in the supplement industry 😉

Thats not the only post in which he mentions this.. He also states that the only time where meal frequency is not important is where fat loss is the primary goal. But to continue to send the "message" for muscle to grow, you must continue to supply it with said FFA's through some form of protein. So putting opinion aside, lets say that this is true, every four hours, consuming fat and protein from a whole food (i.e Beef and Butter, Eggs and CO, Chicken Avocado CO) meals like that, would be digesting and releasing FFA's long enough to not breakdown muscle tissue correct?Sorry Im just confused/concerned that the very person who created these protocols in several of his own posts is directly contradicting what hes said in other posts and his books....

TLDRHe has stated more then once that article is out of date and the information and specific protein timing has no place in CBL

that's the thing about science though so much conflicting and newly found information especially when it comes to nutrition and dieting.. all i can really say is when i'm interested in a topic i seek out as many studies on the subject I can.. then see if you can find supporting studies to back up the studies you just looked up... in my time reading and looking through these i have pretty much always seen it was completely unnecessary to consume protein(or food for that matter) in such a frequent intervals when doing any sort of low carb type eating.  I also have found many studies where excess protein during a low carb diet can actually be very counter-productive to your system and how it handles your daily intakes.... on the other hand CBL isn't a low carb type diet really and honestly most people doing CBL are not likely to be efficient at using their own fat stores as they would be on CNS or other longer duration ULC type eating styles..
