decker3636KeymasterI have a meet coming up and usually the week before the meet I don't lift so that I'm fresh. Would I still not eat carbs all week leading up to the meet? I'm hoping this doesn't effect my lifts.

Kiefer talked pretty in depth about this in a podcast... I can't remember which one though...

Intensity JunkieMemberMy guess is you would want to have a smaller back load mid week and of course back load the day before the meet.

crap, i can't remember either. i think the suggestion went wildly against common Kiefer recommendations: low GI carbs throughout the day of the event, avoiding huge insulin spikes

unc197GuestFor my last comp i hit a light lower body day on tuesday…involving a lot of sled and some abs but got some work in. I then did upper on wednesday…a lot of sled and some other things for light for a pump. I had the best performance ive had. I lift raw and hit 8of 9 lifts. got red lighted because butt came up on bench. If you follow something similar to that and your weight is good than i dont see why you couldnt carb up before those lifts. And of course if you make weight the night before than carb up the night before as well. If you really like the whole week off and weight is good in the book he says not to take 2 off days from carbing up. why not try every other day hitting carbs at night. If i did it like this i would make sure the day before weigh ins was a no carb day and then carb up night before comp.

Brandon D ChristParticipantI believe Kiefer reccomends a complete fat, carb, and protein meal about 2-3 hours before the meet. He reccomends eggs and hashbrowns. He also says to bring protein and low GI carbs to eat between lifts and make sure you can tolerate them in a high stress enviroment.
