atomicusMemberIf I were to do 15 mins of HIIT after my workout, would it be best to delay the PWO shake (with carbs, protein etc.) until AFTER the HIIT, or have it in a brief break BEFORE? Given I'm looking to shift that last bit of stubborn tummy fat, what would be the best approach?

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorDo HIIT before your workout. You will be shocked, it wont hurt your performance, and after a few weeks of it it will probably help.

atomicusMemberThat's interesting, had never really considered that as I figured it would wreck my workout. Is it not as good to do it after then?

Doing it after shuts down hypertrophy signals.Doing it before turns mTOR on, increases the hormonal response from training, and can help increase mitochondrial density.

So you have your HIIT on the same days as weight training? How is that working for you? I have mine on the off weight days.

I find this isn't needed at all. I take about 3-5 minutes, then go right into warming up for my workout.

atomicusMemberTried it yesterday, no issues at all. Didn't negatively affect my workout afterwards. 🙂

pndpmtGuestIf your main goal is strength and performance, I imagine doing sprints before a lower body workout would severely weakens you, no? I know he recommends HIIT before weights, but have you guys really found no ill effects of doing HIIT before a lower body session?

I find it makes me more explosive. I might lose some strength, but it really gets my lower body ready to go.

Try the tabata protocol, it's completely awesome and supported by some good research from what I remember (personally I've always prefered the running machine rather than bike etc..., but that's just me)And yes, do it before training, however if done properly you will need a good 10 minutes to recover and will be nicely prepped for a strength workout.
