powerdocKeymasterIsomalto-oligosaccarides are a prebiotic in the Quest bars. Are they undigested and fermented into SCFA or are they really broken down as carbs? Any idea if they spike insulin?

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorKeifer talked about them in a post.I don't remember word for word what he said, nor the thread it was in, but he said they are to be avoided.

gabexMemberI did a search and found nothing on the forums. Is there a explanation somewhere? Its whey isolate. And fiber. For the most part. Fiber is technically supposed to be a fatty acid. So why not? What is the reasoning, or science behind this statement?

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorMost of them use sugar alcohols, I know that's a reason.I'll try to find the post he made about them.Edit: http://dangerouslyhardcore.com/forum/index.php?topic=2831.msg28334#msg28334

Brandon D ChristParticipantI found out that protein bars are just not worth it. I think they can be a decent transitional tool for people newer to fitness to kill the sweet tooth leftover from a Standard Diet, but you should try to get off of them ASAP.

AdamFiddlerGuestIf you're looking for a solid protein bar I would put in my vote for the following:1) Cook grass-fed beef2) Cut said grass-fed beef into square, or "bar" shape if you will.3) Place stick of butter on top of said meat (also in square or "bar" form, of course).4) Eat with hands.Tried this today, in fact. Has my vote for Protein Bar of the Year.Sincerely,Adam

Damon AmatoParticipantI find that I can improve your bar by keeping said butter and beef together by wrapping them in bacon. #trademarked

Brandon D ChristParticipantWhy a protein bar anyway? Why not just a fat bar? For that just eat a stick of butter or my favorite unsweetened chocolate!

I find that I can improve both of your bars by replacing the beef and butter with several slices of bacon, wrapped in bacon.

Man I can only get like 1/4th of a stick down at a time that way. Maybe a half if I'm really hungry. If you can eat the whole stick that way that's awesome.
