AliotuaMemberI know Kiefer says in the books that eggs produce an insulin response, and that they should only be eaten with lots of fat, but I was curious how much fat this entailed? For instance, this morning I had 3 eggs, 5 egg whites and 4 slices of thick cut bacon.. Would that cause too much of an insulin response?

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorThat would most likely be fine. But why even eat egg whites? more yolks, and cook them in the bacon fat.

AliotuaMemberI do cook it all in the bacon grease. Well I thought I remembered reading somewhere in the CBL E-book that egg whites wouldn't spike insulin as much… Was I mistaken?

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorI don't know if it's in the book, but it has been discussed.Whites will likely spike it less but you will get more benefit from eating the yolks. Really, there is no point at all to skipping yolks.

ffemtmcdGuestI may be off a little here but I believe Naomi made a comment that it took like 5 or more to cause a spike in insulin so 3 shouldn't do much

Brandon D ChristParticipantActually the egg whites are fine, its the yolk's leucine content that gives eggs insulin spikes.

pndpmtGuesthttp://www.mendosa.com/insulin_index.htmAccording to this, eggs are actually pretty low on the insulin index, and beef is actually more insuligenic than eggs. This chart is for a 240 Calories portion of food, which is about 3.5 eggs or so, and about 6oz of lean beef. Wonder if this information is really accurate though

PeteMemberI was asking a similar question about eggs and diary products awhile ago. I was told the same thing… leucine will cause insulin spike. I also looked up leucine content of various foods and found out that beef has much higher leucine content than cottage cheese, for example. And on top of that, Naomi told me that leucine has nothing to do with anything. (as far as why to avoid certain foods during ULC)Confusing..

Brandon D ChristParticipantIn the insulin index study that the chart you referenced is from, the beef they used was a lean steak. If you were to use fatty ground beef the insulin response would be a lot less. Though I do not know where people get that beef protein doesn't spike insulin…it clearly does just look at the study. You have to balance out the protein just like any other source. It's all here: http://www.ajcn.org/content/66/5/1264.full.pdf

Damon AmatoParticipantI think Naomi may have said beef doesn't spike insulin, however I don't know if Kiefer knew she said that or agrees anyway.

PeteMemberShe was talking about cottage cheese, not beef. What she said was that dairy does spike insulin, but that it has nothing to do with leucine. And since everyone here is saying that leucine is the reason, the result is.. my confusion ;D

No, Naomi has said before that beef doesn't really generate an insulin response. I'm not really sure what type of "beef" she is referring to though.

PeteMemberWhat do you mean “no”? I know what she told me.

Sorry, I was not referring to what Naomi told you, I was referring to what she has said in previous posts. I modified my previous post to make it more clear.

PeteMemberIt's all good. Just trying to figure it all out and even though everyone says that CBL is extremely simple, I sometimes feel it's confusing. And based on so many questions here, I'm not the only one. With that said, this forum is great and it's helped me a lot.
