sarah_h88Memberhey all.so i just had a conference call with a couple of hormone specialists. turns out that i have very low estrogen and progesterone, and my testosterone is actually a bit high for a woman. i also have a problem with DHEA because my adrenals are stressed.she said i need an iodine test.my cortisol is low in the morning, leading to decreased energy levels.they've recommended a progesterone supplement, and a women's fertility fibre supplement called DailyMaxx http://ladytobaby.com/show.php?cat=12&item=258she said basically something that's based with cruciferous vegetables. she said that flax oil will be important for me as well.apparently i'm supposed to be eating 40/30/30 to help regulate my fertility, and the carbs i eat have to be slow digesting because insulin spiking is a problem for these hormones.how on earth am i supposed to continue doing CBL like this? all this fibre, slow digesting carbs? flax oil?if my cortisol starts off low in the morning, does that mean it's low all day and even lower than normal at night? or it could jump back up again at night, making CBL not optimal?i am so disheartened and confused.i'm loving CBL and i don't want to start eating fucking 40/30/30 with whole grains during the day 🙁 i'll start with the progesterone, and maybe more fibre, but i don't want these insulin spiking carbs to be dangerous to my hormonal health.i'm so pissed off an confused as to what to do.does anyone have any experience in this or more knowledge? how can i tweak this and still do CBL without doctors screaming at me about high glycemic carbs.please help 🙁 i don't want to abandon CBL

Get a different doctor. Find one that is willing to work with you. If possible, see if there is someone in the paleo community (a Robb Wolf) that could help you. These folks will be difficult to track down, but when there is a will there is a way.In the mean time you could do Carb Nite, but unless you are backloading every day, I fail to see how a 40/30/30 diet, which will likely be an increase in carbohydrates from your current diet, will help any sort of problems caused by insulin.

i`m definitely taking the more paleo route for this. as it is right now, i`m only backloading (mainly white rice, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, tapioca flour based foods, and dextrose) 3 nights a week, and still training at night 3 times a week. i`m worried that training at night when supposably my cortisol is higher as opposed to the morning when it`s low will affect my muscle growth and hopefully not muscle breakdown and fat gain....the ULC days are ample amounts of butter, fish oil with lean meat because it`s not grass fed, coconut oil, sauerkraut, green veggies, organic cocoa, eggs, and bacon.would training in the morning be better? i just always feel weaker in the morning and it`s definitely not as good of a work out.

FairyGuestSarah, please take a look at the BulletproofExec.com diet plan (all up there for free). It's designed for optimal health and stabilizing hormones. Fatloss is a side effect, and will be for you once your body is in a healthier state. Oh, and Flax oil + Wholegrains!? Bullshit. Flax doesn't even contain the right *type* of omega 3 for humans.

Cory McCarthyMemberI can understand the doctor recommending cruciferous veg., but they are neglecting the fact that the amount of broccoli (for instance) you'd need to eat to obtain a proper dose of Indole-3-Carbinol would be ABSURD. Lightly-cooked or raw, at that. The doctor(s) should have recommended you take a DIM supplement instead. Indole-3-Carbinol is a pre-cursor to DIM, but DIM has been studied more, with better results, and safety of use.DIM helps modulate estrogen levels, and has no ill side effects.Based on this alone, I think you clearly need another professional opinion.Cory

I'd like to say +1, but I don't know anything about what Cory posted, though it sounds convincing! The more and more I read about health and nutrition, the more I distrust medical professionals on any issue that is diet related. Nutritionists and dietitians are just as bad.

sarah_h88Memberthanks everyone for your input. i have an appointment with another doctor in about 3 weeks, so we'll see if he offers anything different. the DIM supplement looks good..i'll look more into it.and i've been reading through bulletproofexec. really helpful. i'm eating mainly this way, except in the backloads i'm having some potato based stuff..so maybe i should try without. do you know if there's a problem with tapioca according to bulletproof exec?i just wish i knew when is better to workout at this point based on my messed up cortisol times. honestly, still doing everything the way it's laid out for CBL is feeling good. i guess this stuff is gonna take some time to sort itself out, but i'm determined to heal my adrenals and getting everything back to normal. i'm not going to let it beat me or ruin the physique i want to achieve.

Here is some Robb Wolf stuff for cortisol/adrenal fatigue:http://robbwolf.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/the-paleo-solution-episode-71.pdfhttp://robbwolf.com/2012/04/09/real-deal-adrenal-fatigue/Also you may want to look into earthing. I have started to do it recently and I have noticed a large improvement in how I feel and studies show that it improves hormone levels. Here is the website to buy the earthing mats and sheets: http://www.earthinginstitute.net A cheaper option is to simply go outside and put your bare feet on the earth or lay in the grass for a while, however the best results are when you are earthed while you sleep.

You are really going to have to keep us updated on your experiments iBob. Between this and the breathing thing youve got some interesting "recovery" tools to test for efficacy. Definately interested in hearing from someone utilising these for similar goals as myself.

Gl;itch.eMemberHey iBob. Hows the earthing going?
October 14, 2013 at 4:15 am #101894
Brandon D ChristParticipantYou know I was actually thinking about earthing. I have been earthing pretty much every night for the past year.I have noticed:1. Better Sleep.2. Cortisol levels seem normal now. I have pretty good cortisol levels when I wake up and they are very low at night so I can sleep. I don't have test/measurements or anything, I just have a much easier time waking up and going to sleep. I used to be one of those people that always felt like sluggish and tired in the morning and wound up at night.3. Increased recovery from workouts.4. Less stress and anxiety. Most of these results aren't much of a surprise as studies have shown improvements in these areas. ANd of course I am sure they are all inter-related. Supposedly earthing has a strong anti-inflammatory effect, but that has never been a problem with me, so I can't really say anything about that.I'd recommend it.
