FairyGuestWell, I don't know if it's just because I'm on CNS, but carb cycling seems to be EVERYWHERE right now. I just bought a new book out by one of the leading PTs in the UK. The diet he recommends is basically CBL (though he's still hung up on whole grains) and the supps are pretty similar too. Really interesting to see how a load of different people are coming up with similar looking diets . . . even people with slightly different goals like Dave Asprey (optimal brain function), and Rob Wolf (optimal health), LeanGains, Dr.Patel with at risk patients etc.

When Kiefer did the podcast w/ Dr.Patel, I got so excited that he was wanting to get into the more public health side of things.I got my bachelors in public health. Two very miserable years of my life, I had to listen to all the govt policy LIES + BULLSH*T!Felt like I was living a lie, just sitting there listening to it day after day!I remember doing a powerpoint on how low crab diets were actually healthy. I just got looked at funny.

sckielyParticipantThats VERY interesting. Especially this statement, "CrossFit or very hard training while LC or ketogenic. Crossfit burns through glycogen like nothing else I can imagine. If you are going to do it, you need carbs, quite a few of them. If you are trying to be competitive I’d get at least 1.5-2.5g/lb of BW most days." I do CrossFit style training 2-3 times a week and the other 3 days I do purely strength. As the week progresses and gets further and further away from my CN I find I have difficulty finishing a WOD (workout of the day) and have absolutely NO energy. However, it was after those types of workouts that I tended to lose the most weight doing CNS. I know he says that is the "bees knees" for strength training so I guess I'll have to see how the two fit in together. I hope that we don't have to worry about adrenal failure...since we ARE eating carbs, right? Just once a week!
Something like crossfit requires alot of glycogen. Which depending on the day is not consistently around when doing CNS. When Glycogen depleted, doing a glycogen deplete workouts is not conducive to performance or aesthetics.I would read Kiefer's article concerning crossfit (warning: he hates it), or at least the way some crossfitters train.
I know how he feels about it. I don't do typical crossfit...I do something worse--which is the NAVY/Marine Corps trainer's version of it. Meaning, most of the workouts are long 30-40minutes. I find that I feel okay doing these workouts in the beginning of the week but by the end I'm pretty haggard. I also read that he said CrossFit can be really good for women because they have a hard time depleting their glycogen...so I guess I'll just pray for the best!
My suggestion here if you start to stall on carb nite doing this sort of training is to do a modified version where you have a second carb nite. I have a few CF type clients doing this variation and having a carb nite Tuesday and Friday. The Tuesday one is smaller and more controlled. They always have at least 2 CF sessions in between carb nites so this burns through the carb stores efficiently. Or as mentioned you could check out Kiefers Xmas gift on high volume setup. One final point hers is that CBL SA is aimed at removing fat and building muscle. Kiefer has stated that the point where CBL and carb nite cross is 3x carb feeds a week. So 2x week is a modified carb nite.

Sckiely,I had originally planned to do CBL but once I reviewed the forums I figured CNS would be better for faster fat loss. I do train a lot (more than your average bear I suppose!) I have seen my progress stall somewhat. I gained a lb this last week and the week before that I gained .2lbs. The only positive is that I've lost a half inch from my waist and hips. Not sure what ive done wrong but if I don't see a change soon I am going to start doing a modified CNS with two carb nites.

I know weve established there are difference between males and females in terms of glycogen/fat ultilization during different times, activities, but I read a couple weeks ago Robb Wolf saying he actually got fatter using low carb w/ CF.Not saying thats whats happening, but something to think about.

I dunno. But I have to find hope somewhere. Paleo didn't work for me the way it was advertised either. I even tried doing the whole 30 and cut out sugar for 60 days! Including fruit!!

I would say stick with CNS for a while longer, look at logs, make sure your doing doing something wrong (over doin veggies/ wrong kind, too much protein, etc).

The weight shouldn't be your focus. However I think going to 2 carb nites will benefit you immensely. What is your present BF% do you think

FairyGuestOh, damn. I just watched this vid: http://www.30bananasaday.com/m/discussion?id=2684079%3ATopic%3A1959685My waist and arms have got thicker on CNS (admittedly, I haven't done it perfectly) and I've put on 10 lbs. I don't know what to make of it because I view muscle mass as healthy and strength as desirable... But I also want a tiny waist. Big strong thick core /= tiny waist

I did take progress pics but none this week. Ill take a look. The last time I did a 3 pt tape test for body fat it said 29%. I may be delusional but I don't think that's right!
