I read/listen pretty extensively to folks like Chris Kreser and Paul Jaminet (The Perfect Health Diet).  These guys are some of the strongest proponents of a super-healthy, nutrient dense diet.  They strongly recommend sardines both for their health benefits as well as sustainability.  Here's an excerpt from a pod cast Revolution Health Radio (Kresser's podcast):Paul: Yeah so once you delve down to the individual fatty acids then it gets a little more complicated and for optimal health you do want a balance between the different types. And so that’s why we recommend eating in the vicinity of a pound of cold water marine fish like salmon or sardines per week. So definitely as a practical matter making an effort to get some omega-3s will generally improve health, and the reason for that is you’re getting all these omega-6s from other sources and it is desirable to have a balance and you kind of have to make an effort to get some omega-3s because a lot of foods just don’t have them.

The difference health wise between fresh atlantic salmon and a can of sardines is gonna be hugee! And for people eating grass fed their omega 3 ratio is much better anyway, I just have always avoided canned anything.

Although canned my not be the best its easy to pack.I eat the wild planet full fat canned stuff and its 100x better than the regular stuff.

I enjoy a tin of Sardines now and then when the Wife is not around.    If I'm eating sardines when she's around, the sardine breath becomes a form of birth control.  Zero action!
